Well, Nyariki surely you can explain to us some of your spectacturely dumb posts?

Well, it might help if I spelled spectacularly correctly?. Or at least come closer. Anyhow Mr. Nyariki, tell us about your relationship with Cragg?

I used to belong to a message board revolving around the industry I work in.
With no registration, we had maybe 400-500 people posting regularly, maybe 100 posts a day.
After registration, zero. zip. it was over. dead. nothing. zilch
goodbye

Baggy,
Your analogy has two problems. First, how do you know it was really 400-500 and not you and just one other guy using 399 different names? Second, the stakes on an industry message board are different than one dedicated to the passion for running. Except for the select few, none of us are in it for the money, just for good times. So I don't see registration here as something which would wipe out participation. Registration good.
wejo has good intentions, however, I can tell you from experience and training that it will not work. Actually it will work, but like the above poster said, it will work "too" well and this website will suffer tremendously.
Always ask me first before doing anything irrational and I will give you good sound advice.

You're not quite getting what the Brojos are considering: requiring registered logins, AT THE SAME TIME, allowing you to continue using anonyms. Not a big deal, and it will only kill off the punks.
I think we can all name those who won't register, don't you agree?
and is there a way we can keep grumpy old farts from posting like malmo and Thoner?
ha!.......just kidding of course.
I visit two other message boards besides this one. One is running related and the other is football (soccer) related. Both require registration but are still very popular. Most people try to think up an amusing user name (unlike me). The email address I use to register is not displayed publicly but other registered users can connect me through the host site.
Simple.
me too! (as always)
On the surface, I don't have a problem with registration. It's your board, you run it any way you like. My problem is trying to make sure some knuckle head doesn't register as me. There have been too many imposters on here.
I just want to make sure everyone knows who the real Evel Knievel is on here.
I also lurk and post on the sports Web site for my alma mater (UC-Berkeley). It's at
and you can ask its Web master about the transition from open bashing season to what wejo and rojo are proposing for this Web site. It was worse in some respects, because rivals pretending to be Cal fans would post misinformation which could potentially influence a football or hoops recruit, etc. Still, clearly wejo, rojo and the moderators shouldn't have to waste their time and emotional energy baby-sitting and hand-holding the hurt feelings of anonymous, asinine trash-talkers who like to tear down high profile names in running. Especially when they should be devoting their time to coaching and running, respectively.
There are many responsible posters on Letsrun. But unfortunately, this board has demonstrated time and again that certain runners are just not mature, considerate or sane enough to warrant the privilege to post anonymously. So this proposal will go a long ways toward weeding out the bad eggs. If you're so concerned about privacy, nyariki, you should have been calling out the obnoxious posters, because they cost you your valued privacy.
The Cal site began to require e-mail registration just over a year ago. There was a great hue and cry about privacy, spamming, personal "rights," losing posters, etc. This is Berkeley, after all. It was an upgrade IMO. Many of the persistently nasty trolls from rival schools bailed, and some of the higher profile athletes (and even their parents) now post, contributing to a stronger forum. Maybe elite athletes will come out of the woodwork (lurking phase) and want to post here now that the asswipes are forced to be accountable for what they have to say.
It goes without saying I'm all for it. We'll get rid of the lowest form of posters, and replace them with civilized debate, as well as top runners and coaches.
I post on a board that requires registration, and it is great. I think this board would benifit greatly from weeding out a lot of the garbage that gets posted here. I can always find some interest stuff on this board, it is just a matter of how much crap will i have to sift through to read it.
and for those who think that message boards with registration die. On another sports board i post on, here are the stats I pulled from it today.

Wejo--Rojo--who really cares---not even blurbs on the American running scene.
if he requires registration, i seriously doubt the site will die. ill still be here, as will numerous other friends, co workers, and the like. im a member of another forum where registration was required, and they have had around 50,000 sign up. if it makes the boards more worthwhile, im all for it.
its about time!
bump
nyariki:
btw, you are my favorite kenyan--loved the talk we had at cooper river and crescent city.
but where do you get this "right to privacy" from? there is no right to privacy here in the US (or on sites owned by folks like the brojos), really. i was wondering if you knew something i don't.
This one stays on top. Bump.
Read the headline again. Registration will be required. You're toast.
nyariki, you don't know what the hell you're talking about. Required registration is a good thing. It adds a small barrier to entry that will help keep the f***s out.
