I'm predicting sub 13:10, 13:07 to be exact. A 12 second drop to 12:59 off of an already big pb race is to much to soon. Fam is a prospect for sub 13 in the future though.
you have to wonder what he was thinking when he DNF'ed at cardinal (10k) does he want to focus on 5k? i certainly havent seen any steeple results. it should be interesting to see what he's capable of. i'd like to see him do well
Don't know much about his current training but if I was a betting man I would have to go with the over there. I would guess 13:18 for him.
i think he's fitter than 13 18he's coming off a 13 11 and a decent (however overally unimpressive race) kip keino mile

He just won the Adidas Classic as well...
i'd say 13:09-13:15. it will be humid. could get tactical too.

Does anyone know the story behind this? I would've assumed he was rabbitting. Do we know anything else?
in Track and Field news it said, "fam, looking full of run, stepped off in an apparent decision to save it for another, faster-paced day."
and honestly, when he stepped off in the flocast vid he looked great
this meet doesn't tend to bring great times because of the weather, but then again didn't dibaba set a 5k wr here last year?
The only American runner that has run faster than 13:15 who I think can go sub 13 in his next try is Webb. If you look at his progress in the 5000, he has only raced it 3 times and took off a considerable amount time each attempt. I don't think it's out of the question for him to run a 12:5? in perhaps a one and only attempt late in the summer.
13:07 is a good prediction for Fam.
I know Fam well and have watched him progress over the last several years and I can tell you that he is currently in the nastiest shape of his life by far. I do think he is in shape enough to break 13 if the pacing is right and the weather permits it. Also, he dropped out of that 10k because he simply wasn't feeling good that day and didn't feel like he was going to be able to close like he wanted which is usually very fast. Expect big things from him the rest of the season as this certainly seems to be his year.

sub 13 is an awesome accomplishment. He may eventually do it but not in his next event. He'll likely plateau a bit and then eventually sneak under. Likely not even this year.
If the Kenyans go out in 12:50 pace or something ridiculous, he will be in no man's land and probably run 13:10. If he goes out with the Kenyans, he runs the risk of dying and running 13:30. Weather and early pace will obviously be the deciders. Best case might be an honest pace of 13:00 to 13:10 and then every man for himself the last 800.

It's Fam, he is definitely going to go out with the Kenyans.
If there is one person I want to do break 13 and get the american record, it's Fam. I think he has great potential to do it, but I just don't think now is the time. I would really love to see Tegenkamp break the record also.

Are you serious? How about doing a Ryan Hall, Alan Webb or many Africans and making a fast race? Is someone really going to get on my case and defend a conscious choice DNF like that one?
It's not a big deal to me. Fam isn't getting any younger. He has a limited number of races left to make his mark. May as well make them all count.
Just wanted to mention the forecast highs for close to 90 on Saturday and a 7:30 start time for the race. It certainly will have started to cool off, and the dew point has been pretty low so far this week, but I do see that there's a potential for isolated t-storms starting tommorrow and going through the weekend, so the dew point may be on the rise.
In summary, probably not Mombasa or Osaka conditions for a 5000m, but not Oslo or even late-night Sacramento, either.

Defar set the wr last year. Dibaba came somewhat close a couple of years ago.
