My Asian History Professor is trying to shove Buddhism down our throats. What should I do?

Shove atheism back down the prof's throat. Call BS on everything he/she says.
Listen, you might learn something useful and you could even end up not being just another idiot American.
But I'm not an atheist, I just don't believe Buddha was anything other than a fat guy.
Buddha is alive right now. crazy eh? Think about it.
Tell his director that he is pushing religion down your throat likethe liberals do to christians.
I know. That's what bothers me about this situation. If he was preaching Christianity he'd probably be fired, but the administration looks the other way when the professors espouse buddhism or islam or hinduism
Buddha wasn't fat. he was actually quite skinny in person.

Study for the test, get a good grade, move on.
Might be a little late for this advice though since we are at the end of May and you still think Buddha was fat. Buddha starved himself and was said to be able to feel his spine by placing his hand on his stomach.
Yes, I may be in trouble on the mid-term.
Oh college. I once had a History Prof who was a raging Communist and stumped his beliefs to the class in almost every lecture. I think all Liberal Arts Profs are Socialists by default. Good times. It opened my eyes a bit but at the end of the day I wasn't about to start a revolution.
It's an Asian History course...did you think you were going to talk about Christianity?
Asian history has about 90% to do with religion. Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Hinduism, etc.
The main difference between Asian (Eastern) philosophies and Western (Jewish, Christianity, Islam, etc) philosophies is that Eastern philosophies are more internally based. They are more concerned with an internal struggle between man and nature, man and himself. Western philosophies are more concerned with outward struggles between man and god. If you ask a follower of an Asian religion if they believe in god you'll get a puzzled look. Believing, following, and worshiping a diety is of minor importance in most Eastern philosophies. Do some homework, research, and you'll see what I'm talking about and see why you can't seperate Asian History from it's religion.

If the prof is really "shoving Buddhism down your throats", then he clearly isn't a Buddhist. Just take what he says with a big grain of salt and pass the class as best you can.
Also....
The fat guy statue is not a statue of the historical Buddha, who was actually from India. it is a statue of another buddha, Budai or Hotei. He is supposed to represent the future Buddha Maitreya. He represents happiness and life fulfillment
Keep in mind that all of the figures in Asian philosophies are not dieties, they are representations of some part of the religion or something to be learned from.

Just be glad he did not invite Richard Gere to come speak.

The above post is typical of the answers that people brainwashed by their professors would spit out. Another naive, self delusional idiot.
