My wife want to buy new furniture at Ikea. I'm not too crazy about their stuff. Anyone have good or bad experiences with them?

ive bought tons of shiit from there. most of the stuff is great, but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. its cheap and holds up but its not gunna last you as long as something from a good furniture stuff is. but ikea does have so pretty siick stuff, and dont forget to stop by and pick up some swedish meatballs from their food court. best $1.50 ever spent, ever.
listen to your wife and buy away
They have some good stuff, I say give it a shot. They also have quite a variety - no reason to rule out the entire place, I bet you'll find a few items you like. Also, I'd like to point out that you are lucky that your wife wants you to buy things at IKEA, as opposed to some BS high end designer place. At least now, if you don't like it, you didn't also have to pay through the nose for it.

It depends what you get. For stuff like bookcases, endtables, various odds and ends, it's great. Their upholstered furniture shows its cheapness a little more but even that stuff is good bang for your buck.
IKEA....been to Chicago and Detroit area stores... good stuff at good prices.

Right on the money.
Our home has been IKEA'd out for years and not a single major purchase from there has broken/worn down (numerous bookcases, sideboards, table, chairs, couches).
I highly recommend the Kimsta chairs. Comfortable and cheap.
Helps if you're handy because putting some of the things together can be a total bitch (directions aren't always the greatest), even for an experienced carpenter.
And make sure you take a car with plenty of trunk space if you're planning on taking stuff home.
IKEA rocks! go for it!
I thank you all, and come again.
Unless you are poor, live in a small apartment or college dorm, don't buy ikea furniture. It doesn't last.
My kids' bunk beds are holding up well.
If you shop at IKEA make sure you factor in an extra hour or two to assemble the furniture at home and two and a half hours to walk through the store (tongue in cheek).
