where's edinboro?
where's edinboro?
Northwest PA, just south of Erie
It was not memorabilia; it was our Championship banner.
To have it hanging on the wall of an apartment as if it were some Bud Chick Beer Poster was in very poor form. It was not entirely the fault of you guys. It was Watts' fault for not treating the banner with respect.-mplatt
i can tell you that the banner was not hung up in POOR Form. it was pretty cool to find a banner hung up in a apartment soo everyone can see it b/c who really looks at the banners in the field house. So everyone knew that XC won nationals b/c 99% have no clue. i doubt anybody disrespected if anything showed respect when they walked in and saw it. i think somebody needs to rethink the situation
something wronfg:
I only have the perspective of the number one guy on the team that won that banner and the opinions of the other 4 All-Americans from 1986. If you think your perspective is better than mine and their's, well, I guess this is beyond my ability to reason with you.
Shoot me your name and address, I'll mail you my NCAA Rings and All-American certificates as well.
who are u? did u run for edinboro? are u one of those dudes who live in the past college days...get a life
LOL. Okay, I give, you are right.
Bump
Where you there when they inducted that team (the '86 nat'l champs. team) into the DII XC hall of fame a couple of years ago? I thought that was a pretty sweet presentation Watts gave re: that team. It totally got me fired up to hear about a team of badasses like that. I even saved the program from the presentation that night. Watts put the lyrics from that ACDC song (It's a long way to the top if you wanna' rock and roll) on the back and now whenever I hear it I freakin' think about Edinboro!
I actually remember him telling some version of that story about the 3x2 mi workout that went crazy.
yes, I was there. I was the guy that spoke for the team.
What's the mileage a week??
Platt:
I heard about what you did in the Boro, ripping the banner down and running off with it like some silly little drunk girl and then mailing it back with an apology letter.
Here is something for you, why don't you grow up? You graduated from college almost 20 years ago! You are obviously obsessed with the past.
What you don't seem to understand is that the guys that went through the Boro XC program idolized guys like you, Beardsley, Antignoli, hate to say it but - Leonard, etc.
I went through the program in the 90's and that banner was hanging in a one of the guys houses then. It was up because we all wanted what you guys had and we looked up to that team with respect. Hell, Watts came to my house and recruited me with a video that featured your ugly and freakish looking mug.
But you have to be the biggest joker of all time. Still hanging out in a college town some 20 years later. Platt your a forgotten loser. Get a life and stop messing with college KIDS. Your legacy was forgotten years ago, get over it.
Sincerely,
B. Lenzo
was mike tonkin on the 86 team? what kind of career did he wind up having? got i used to hate getting my ass handed to me by him in high school. i wonder what4ever happened to that guy....anyone know?
Hey Lenzo, you sound like a real arse! I'll take Platt's word any day over yours! Besides 'Boro wrestling is where it's really at!
Tonkin was 7th man on that team.
Very talented runner. Partied too hard. Extremely wild at times. Ladies man galore.
Eventually earned All-American in X/C.
Good guy, business man, lives in Baltimore, married with kids.

I can tell you that that banner was indeed treated poorly at times. I remember VIVIDLY being at a party at that apartment where the banner was thrown around and messed with. Someone vomited and wiped his mouth off on the banner. Platt was right to come get it. You kids have NO FUCKING RESPECT.
Mr. Platt was "hangin around" in Edinboro to honor two distinguished Edinboro Athletes that were being inducted into the hall of fame (former all-americans, national champion, olympic trials qualifier, etc.), in addition to honoring Doug Watts, also being inducted.
That is what Alumni do. They honor. They respect. He and others were there for no other reason.
I have always enjoyed feeling that tie between the past and the present, which helps continue the Edinboro tradition.
The comments that you are making only sever ties and do nothing to continue that tradition.
If you want to be like the runners that have preceded you - you train your ass off. Period.
As a alumni of just last year...I was one of the runners who had a banner hanging in my apartment. i can tell you when Watts had a recruit stay with me that banner spoke louder than anything any of the team or watts could say. I know that the banner was respected in my apartment. As for Platt I have seen him at too many of the Hall Of Fame Banquets and I can tell you when he start drinking he is the only one who makes people disrespect him. I respect you Mike as a runner but the four times I have seen you, you have been drunk off your ass and out of control. I respect the runner, but not the drunk ass I have met. Let the banners stay......they show the true legacy of Edinboro and have no use sitting in watts's office...like we all know it will!!!
Is that all schools like SRU is worried about? (how many miles Edinboro runs?) Totally off the subject as well.
"I respect you Mike as a runner but the four times I have seen you, you have been drunk off your ass and out of control."
That is simply laughable.(psst, you got the wrong guy)
But I cannot defend against your anon bullshit?
People who know me as a person and as a runner respect me.
That's my defense.
Clearly you are pissed I took our award. Sorry, but if a simple act like that deserves all of this public bashing by you guys than I think you all have more problems than me.
By the way, I sent the banner back to Watts. There was NO apology.
Read the letter for yourself, it explained the position of me and my teammates who ALL agreed that banner was in the wrong place.
And it was not ONE drunk Platt grabbing the banner. It was a car full of Alumni all shocked to see it there and agreed that it was right for me to go and retrieve it.
And as for the Edinboro tradition, since I recieved not an e-mail, letter, or phone response from Watts or team I assumed that what you guys told me as I walked out of the place was correct, "I am no longer a Boro guy!"
So be it. Although I enjoyed staying somewhat connected to the present Boro I had long since moved on to different things in the sixteen years since.
Thanks and goodbye.

That's the worst defense of character I have ever seen. So if one asshole thinks like you, respects you, that makes your actions OK? Please..
