Is this good or what!?
8th grader Ubriaco, Otis 8 Burnt Hills 9:44.67 3200 has also run 203 800, 434 1600.
10:30 is good but not that good. certainly a lot of 9th graders can run faster than that
a 10:30 8th grader is very good. I don't want to hear about the elitest letsrun poster who ran a 945 in 3rd grade. A 10:30 is great for a kid that age.
That said, it doesnt mean he'll turn out to be a great high school or college runner as alot of variables go into that. But he is well on his way!
I got no respect for Burnt Hills. Their coach, about 15 years ago threw a hissy fit at the Schenectady Invy, because a runner of his was DQ'ed, and took his entire team home in the middle of the meet. Ever since then he has refused to have his team participate in any Schenectady meet, including the Grout run in XC and the Schenectady Invy, or Eddy meet in outdoor. Even going as far to start the Burnt Hills invy on the same day as the Schenectady invy. The Burnt Hills invy is really a second rate meet, while the Sch'dy Invy, Eddy Meet and Grout Run are all top notch meets and probably the top in season meets the Albany, NY area has to offer. Basically, the BH coach is denying his team top compitition because of a silly grudge. Schenectady, by the way still does go to the BH invy in XC.
I'm just curious if that kid has been held back at all? Regardless, it's an amazing time for anyone in the 8th grade.
Yeah he has been held back! Held back by the man, not letting him run at the Schenectady Invy or Eddy Meet.
Oh well.
Jason Balkman, All-American and top 3 finisher in the NCAA 10,000 meters ran 4:18 as an 8th grader. Times like these are solid and obviously will be solid runners in the future. Stars as Fresman, yes. World record holders...probably not.
trying to predict future world record setters off 8th grade times is iffy - just as eliminating them from the possibility is....example = Jim Ryun was cut from his 9th grade (i believe it was) CC team because he wasn't good enough...but of course by working hard - he got quite good not too many years later.
but imagine if he had letsrun.com back them to tell him..."you know what - you'll never be very good".
A 10:30 8th grade 3200 is good! are there better 8th grader out there - yes. But that's probably in the upper 99.X% of all 8th grade runners - so yea, that's darn good! If he continues to work hard and smart - he might stay in that 99th%...
That's a shame. Most people from section2 have a lot of respect for Burnt Hills and most of that respect is because of their Coach.
The current head coach was not the head coach 15 years ago.
You are most likely pointing the finger at a man that retired long ago.
The Burnt Hills prom is often held on the weekend of the Eddy Meet. Nonetheless, BH atheletes do often still compete for the meet.
If one were to take a look at the section2 schdedule as I have, Grout falls right in between two big meets for the Spartans. Most likely a well deserved week off from competition.
Can't argue with you there. They are on the same day and typically, track wise, offer faster times. In XC however, the BH invy has turned into a great meet for those that compete.
I agree that it is a very good time. I go to a large HS and the best 8th grader runs 5:08 and a 11:18
i think you are one of the most annoying posters on letsrun
Are you sure? Because that sounds more like a Saratoga act. They don't go to any of these meets either and they hold silly grudges against other coaches and kids too. Many from their own team.
For a boy its decent
For a girl its VERY good
I have a 7th grader who ran 4:57 / 10:38 / 18:04 in his first year of running. Kid is 5'1 about 95 lbs. Plays hockey in the off-season and has big engine and tough as nails.
