I am trying to get a feel for how many people think the same as I do. I have an idea to start a summer running camp in the Golden/Boulder area of Colorado in the future. This would not be a one week summer running camp. This would be a summer long training camp.
Runners that would come to the camp would be those who wonder what they could do if they totally committed themselves to nothing but their training for the summer. They would live what I like to call a "Spartan Lifestyle." You would eat, sleep, and run. The amenities would not be luxurious by any means. The idea location would be away from commerce and society (for the most part). Your best friends would be those who you ran with because you shared the common goal, made the same sacrifices, and pounded each other on hard workouts.
With all the time away, I am hoping you will come away with a better understanding of yourself. What you want in the world, and what you are willing to do for your goals. Not to mention you are going to go into the fall running season with a mental edge knowing that you did all you could and worked your ass off harder than 99% of those out there.
The typical runner would be a college student or recent graduate. I did this last summer and learned so much about myself it was incredible. I came to Colorado with a little over a duffle bag and book bag for the summer. You learn how much in your life really is not necessary when you are forced to go without it. Costs...I am not sure yet. I would like to keep it as cheap as possible and the bare minimum conditions would keep costs low.
I am looking for ideas? What you think is good about this, what you think is bad? Suggestions of how to make it work.
