Ryan Hall and Matt Tegenkamp were multiple time all americans. get real.
Compared to his peers, Matt Tegenkamp was among the best of the best in high school. While he was a seven-time All-American, he was often injured in college and didn't run near his potential. That potential was shown after college when he ran the fourth fastest 5,000 for an American ever. This puts him into a class that he was not in in college.
Soooo,
Among high school runners when he was in high school he was a top dog.
In college, he was not a top dog, often overshadowed by one or two runners on his own team even and while a threat to place well, never really a favorite to win anything.
Post college, he has once again risen to the level of a top dog.
Matt Tegenkamp. Perfect example.
