I'm looking for some guys/gals to run with this summer in the area. I really want to use the summer to get in some good training, especially after all the Summer of Malmo stuff has been rehashed on here a lot, it's kinda been motivating to get off my ass and try for some decent times in the fall. Specifically, since I'm not in shape for huge jaunts around the Charles (yet!), I'm looking for around Jamaica Pond and in JP in general. The exact location is obviously something we can figure out - it might evolve, too. There's also a track really close to the pond if we feel like doing any of that, though again, it would all be under the category of base building. I really want to make a routine out of this.
Myself, I'm not that fast for my age, male, 23, 17:37 5k from not-too-smart training a couple years ago, and my training pace varies a whole lot depending what I'm doing, and I know for most people it seems slow for what I've run. Don't know what the pace is exactly, I usually run for time.
I know there are a bunch of clubs in Boston, but I'd prefer not to join, especially after getting an e-mail from a certain club coach today..."We need people to contribute to our teams"...meaning he wants me to drop $20 on the weekends for a 5k, which ain't gonna happen (sidenote: didn't know you could get rejected from a community group until today!). I want to train during the summer, not race to make a "coach" happy. I want to train with real people, get ready for our respective goals, have a good time, support each other (cause without other people I probably wouldn't get up at 8am to run!), and that sort of stuff.
