Yes, that is fast, but it's still not quite "world class" (as in among the absolute upper tier).??? I think most marathoners would kill to have that kind of speed (it's equal to a low 13's 5k.) not to mention kill to have KK's marathon resume.

First of all, I don't think it's equal to low 13's in a 5k. It's MAYBE equal to a 13:20, which is, yes, solid for a marathoner. But compared to his former marathon WR, it doesn't exemplify great range. Tergat or Geb would be noted for their great range. It's pretty obvious that KK gets better as the distance increases. To decide at which exact distance he becomes "elite" is inherently sort of arbitrary, so 15/20k was just an estimate. I just don't think 17:40 is all that impressive for a 2:06 guy.
By the way, I'm not trying to be argumentative here. I like the discussion.
Why does the front page with the KK article state - "He's the best marathoner ever for a reason."
That's a pretty loaded statement.

"Dumb as F***" is pioneering a new form of trolling. It's patently obvious trolling on a discussion-worthy topic, so it sparks debate and even argument with the OP despite the fact that he's obviously in jest. Genius.
You missed three.

There's no way I'd write the guy off. If he didn't think that he could be competitive, he wouldn't be there.
How many occasions has he run a fast time after coming back from an injury?
I don't think he'll win, but if I were a betting man, I'd certainly put a bob or two on him to be up there with three miles to go.
