posters seem to throw out logic when altitude is mentioned, especially mexico
if a sea-level guy who never trained at altitude
( i know ron did, but it was little )
is worth 27-flat at sea-level in a paced to 5k run
( as ron believes he was, & i do so )
he has to have a "finite" value for that at mexico
call it 29'00
( check ncaa app for exact conversion )
the east africans he ran against in '68 were altitude-born/trained but i don't think at ~ 7,400' of mexico
they were just in fantastic shape, as jomo had ordered a training camp before games for 1st time & extra food rations & lighter duties if working for govt
( keino was given "free" a chicken/week + quart/milk for few weeks before games & less buffalo-rustler hunting duty as worked for police
( unfortunately little extra provisions of which he had himself
( he gave it to his wife to feed family ) ) )
jomo wanted a gold
temu was likely in very close to 27-flat shape at sea-level & that's why he won
keino was probably in
3'26/3'27 shape
i believe tim noakes says 3'42 shape, but that maybe infinitesimally generous...
