A muddy field never stopped a football game!!
(or Mayeroff for that matter)
I'm sure she's raced at that time of the month before without problem. Paula set her Chicago world record at that time of the month.
not sure if you're a woman or not, but just like running can give you the runs - so can your period...

wimp. if Uta can do it and Kempainen can puke going 5.15 per mi. then so can you.

Unnecessary RISK, of what? Eating? Oh the poor dears! Hopefully those highly tuned "pianos" will remember to wear clean underwear when traveling. You never know when you'll be sent to the hospital, after all.
Dude - it's not about rushing to judgement after a marathon. It's actually quite interesting to me that elite runners do this, after the hours of preparation they put in. Maybe this was not Deena's undoing, but I've seen plenty of good runners who in day to day training follow a meticulous diet, but when they get to the race venue they eat whatever's on offer at the nearest restaurant.

And that means exactly WHAT? Had Boston started just six hours earlier or six hours later Deena may have had an entirely different experience. Same with PR at Chicago.
what do you think was going on with the Uta bomber? she was a red and brown mess. that didn't stop her for long.
hey malmo, remember lars enqvist? i read a funny article in swedish rw last year about him. he shat a 60 yard streak in downtown fukuoka in the 1978(?) race. Rodgers won and supposedly gave Lars his shirt as a tribute to his...uh...gutsiness.
he was fondly called Mr Hiroshima thereafter.
I'm sure you know from experience

I'd be willing that I know more about reproductive physiology than you do - by a lot.

Speaking from the point of view of someone who had actually made a living from running, I find it absolutely bizarre that this topic would even cross your mind. Either you don't travel much or you don't eat out much, or both.
I def wouldn't eat out when its that time of the month.
bs excuse. deal with it. she hasn't shown she can win tactile races.
Dude get over yourself - good for you that you made a living from running, but you are not some kind of elite authority. I have travelled around the world for running. Not claiming to be elite, but fortunate enough to have made the national team on occaision. This topic crosses my mind because I am constantly surprised at the food choices good runners make at races, and how many people don't prepare adequately for this last minute detail. Maybe you are lucky enough to have a stomach of steel, but I am one of those runners who can't travel without my tried and tested fuel. If I have to eat my main prerace meal out, I'll do it at lunchtime so that it doesn't affect me the next morning, and stick to whatever I brought with me for the rest of the time. Are you telling me that you never suffered at a race because of a poor food choice, or you never had a team mate that did?

That joke must be hilarious in front of junior high boys.
hmmm, i don't really get it either. if i'm travelling i just eat pretty much the same as usual, i buy stuff from a supermarket or shop and just eat the normal things, they don't have to be hot foods, you can have normal meals, without going to a restaurant. if i ran marathons i certainly wouldn't try new foods the night before a race, i'd eat my own foods.

Of course you do. You know more about everything than anyone.

Non sequitur.
