How can EL G win if he isn't participating
Who was the Irish guy who just ran 13:19? I dont think I ever saw his name under 14:00min before? How old? Anyone
Cathal Lombard, not sure what age, mid twenties i think.
What a great run/breakthrough! Not too many other Irish have run that fast. Maybe only Coghlan, O'Mara, O'Rielly, Finnerty, Treacy and Carroll have run faster
don't see Abdi's name in latest start list??? is it true he went back to run Falmouth after being so close to an "A" for Worlds(understanding BK would also need the "A" for AA to go)
in the indianapolis newspaper kennedy was quoted as saying he isn't going to go to worlds even if he does have the chance. and he said this after his 13:21 performance. he said that he will stay in europe and work on getting faster. all working towards the olympics.

Interesting, if BK runs, it forces Torres to run, as well.
Woo Hoo!!!!!
I am listening to track & field live at work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The above link worked for me. Just click on it, then click on the Five Live Sport link.
Good luck.

No it doesn't. If only one guy has the A standard and a guy higher in the national championship has the B, the guy with the B gets to go. If Abdi backs out, then Kennedy can't get in because he's the only American left in Europe trying for the 5,000 A standard (Meb doesn't count because he's not running the 5,000 - correct me if I'm wrong, because my argument rests on this point)...though he said he wouldn't go anyway because he'd have no chance to do anything. So Torres will go alone.
Yeah, i got that far, the BBC Radio Player, radio on demand box comes up, but no sound. i hit the "do you have a problem..." link and the "listen live' link and then a prompt to download some "surestream.rpm" software. what is that?? and what program should i have the computer open it up with? We have such system limitations here at work....frick!!
I've got the same problem - any help?

From athletics Ireland website -
"On one of the most exciting nights for Irish male distance running in the past few years, James Nolan and Cathal Lombard both achieved massive breakthrough performances at the IAAF Grand Prix II meeting in Heusden on Sunday night (Aug 3rd).
Nolan, the 2000 European Indoor Silver medallist, finished 5th behind 4 Kenyan athletes en route to a magnificent personal best of 3:35.69, a time which overtakes Eamonn Coghlan for 7th on the Irish all-time list and also makes him number one Irishman this year ahead of Gareth Turnbull who recently clocked a personal best of 3:36.60. This gives Nolan the B standard for Paris and leaves him within touching distance of the World and Olympic A standard of 3:34.90.
Lombard's performance was even more eye-popping, as he also finished 5th and knocked a sensational 20 seconds off his 5000m best with a time of 13:19.22 to add a World Championship and Olympic A qualifying standard to the 10,000m B standard he already achieved earlier this summer. Lombard now also moves into 7th on the all-time Irish 5000m list and overtakes U.S. collegiate star Alistair Cragg at the top of the Irish 5000m rankings for 2003."
Spieght isnt going--only ricky is going at the moment. Mccalroy shouldnt have been such a bad loser after ricky destroyed him at the aaas and that may have encouraged ricky to be a bit more bothered about getting the a standard. great run from ricky 1.46.06--great pb.
one word for mccalroy which could be heard being shouted loudly from the jubillee stand after ricky's time was announced---"UNLUCKYYYYYYYY"
man, UK athletics can f*** themselves if they dont send James. I can tell you that his 1min45.6 in Lapeenranta was absolute quality as it was bloody windy in the stadium, and now after seeing last night (another sub 1min46) its just crap (and is it ethical) if they leave him out in favour of Soos. Not taking anything away from Ricky, BUT - this is the World Champs - NOT the u/20's or u/23's and the fastest guys should go. If anything, Neil Speight should be dropped. He is incredibly lucky to be going, after the manner in which he ran his 1min45 - which I am not sure was even legal, and unlike Soos and McIllory, he is all over the show - firstly he hasnt even come close to sub 1min46 in big races in Europe, and secondly, he is not even consistent. 1min47 then 1min49, then 1min48, then 1min49 - sorry Neil, nothing against you, just stating the facts
