Wow, RB.
Just wow!
That should get you on the best times list.
Mr Haaga nice Cherry Blossom! SoCal, way to hang tough at C bad...looking for those results to see how "Ghost of Igloi" and others ran...there are Rono reports of 17:47 which would actually surprise me and am wondering if its a clever April Fool's "report"...2nd place master Patty Murray is the better half of our own poster, "tracklover"...between them, a couple of nice back to back weeks...rivaling the Simonitis family duo...sacto master, yet another Midori race...not sure if you noticed but she had her own thread here last week.
Kills me that my bum wheel kept me away from Carlsbad but at least (after 2 entire weeks of not running a step) managed a 10 mile slog out and back to see the newly hatched osprey chicks at my very favorite and ultra-secret Mt Tamalpais flat dirt trail...this run is SO secret that the only person that I've ever taken there was required to sign a waiver of future secrecy...in blood...regardless, just nice to cover a little turf, even if just a decrepit old man's hobble.

MF
AK-47,
Good work in the snowshoe race.
So, are you Roger or Simon? If you are Roger, I know you from Colorado, many years ago.
A little superstition kept me from posting here until last week and I was right.
A rare event occurred on Tuesday where I found myself on a track at 5 am. Planned to do 2X(4x300 1xmile) but pulled something in my calf after the first hard mile. Limped back and ran easy the rest of the week. I'm one of those dumb streak runners so cannot take a day off to heal.
Today it felt better and got in 20 to get my week up to 78. Had a few mid 90s weeks so I should feel fresh. Congrats to the Cherry Blossom runners. I'm about 45 mins south and was thinking how nice the weather was for racing, cool and no wind.
Until next week
Kevin
On days that I almost ran last week I stopped and watched musky jump over a damn by my house. Muskylunge up to 50 inches long lurking under the damn suddenly flop up onto the lip and then fall back (these ain't fancy ocean-going salmon; these're fat squirrel-fed musky) to try and try again. I never did see one make it but it was a good way to wast 40 minutes that otherwise would've been spent running. Not quite like osprey chicks but-
Greetings one and all,
I had big number 38 on Friday so I have less then 2 years now till I'm officially a masters runner. I plan my masters debut at Boston 2009 so the count down has begun. Now to get into some better shape before then.
I got in 85 miles for the week, with a couple of decent workouts trying to generate a little more speed before an upcoming HM on Apr 14th. Tuesday I did 5k tempo (6:15 pace) then followed it with 4 x 800 w 400j @ 2:42. On Friday I got in 5 x 1600 w 800 jog @ 5:42 (last in 5:32). Hit an easy 19 mile long run this morning.
Sound like several of you had good races this weekend. Good job.
It's this time of year that always makes me smile and realize that although I'm slow its great to be out in the spring air and be a runner. Life is good.

Yeah, I'm ashamed. I tried to get it down to 80, and suddenly I couldn't go lower than 85. Mea culpa. :-)
Actually, I am feeling the accumulation of 100 mile weeks and workouts and coaching...
rainrunner: it's Roger--Simon's a tough runner though, and if he trained half as consistently as me, I'd be gasping to keep him in sight. hmm give me a hint, are you still in Colorado?skinbones, Nordic skiing crosses over very well to running but it takes about 5-6 weeks to really make the transition. Nevertheless 5X1 mile in 4:53 for a 45-49 yr old? masters women running low 17s? Not to mention many other good results from this weekend.

Ran Carlsbad this morning and finished 5th in my age group with an 18:48. I should be pleased with that time, but 4th was given the same time and 3rd was 18:47, so I am somewhat disappointed that I couldn't dig another couple of seconds out in the race. Such are the ups and downs of racing. I saw Henry Rono run (from well behind) and he really did run 17:47. Henry looked great running. With no disrespect intended towards what he has accomplished, I would have to say that he looks like he has the legs of a champion, but still has the belly of about a champion and a half. seeing him this morning I think that if he can continue to work his way down close to his former competitive weight, then he very well can give Nolan Shaheed a run for his money. Nolan won the age group with an incredible 16:31 this morning. He must be from another planet.
MF,
Looks like we'll have two races within a race. Should be a good show. Thanks in advance for setting this up. It's probably what I needed to get back on the track.
The week was so-so. Came down with another bug earlier this week, although it doesn't seem as bad as the other 8 times this year. I did get in 8x300 at goal mile pace on Tuesday (in a strong wind). Thursday I planned on 2x (800-500-300) but only did one set since that's when my cold bug started and I was having trouble catching my breath. The first set was OK; I followed it up with 8x 150M fast strides with 250M walk/jog recovery.
Some good racing this weekend. Have a great week and a happy Easter next weekend.
JM
Dave H., great job at Cherry Blossom!
OldguyII, your performances continue to amaze this aged runner!
Mark S., it's not about the miles. I'm probably the world's slowest "serious" runner. Really, I would challenge anyone to find someone who trains as hard and as much as I do, and runs slower. Keep running and keep posting on here.
I put in 63 miles this week, as I continue to build toward spring racing. Weekend was:
Sat. 4 miles easy before work with some friends
Sun. 15K race in Middletown, NJ on a tough, hilly course, with a lot of it on scenic dirt roads. Ran OK, not great.
11 miles for the day.
Have a good week everyone.

Good job putting this field together Mike. Wish I could be there. Maybe next year. Say "hello" to Mann for me.
KP
Thanks KP...traded e mails this morning with Pat...looks like another meniscus cut for him unfortunately...hope your training for Dave Clingan's 5/13 mile up in Canby, OR is proceeding well...am thinking that we'll see some world ranking performances from that event in 45-49 age group for sure.
best

Continuing to come back from an extended lull - this week managed 71 miles (the highest so far this year - just slightly above average for the previous two years though) including 2 x 5k maybe 20s/mile slower than M-pace and 8 x 800 w/200j somewhere between M and HM pace. Working on aerobic fitness/strength before I try anything fast.
Have a great week everybody!
Hey - H Rono's Carlsbad 5k - sweet! Making progress.

Your comment was rude and uncalled for. Not what we usually see here on our friendly masters thread. :(
Maybe you are just having a bad day. Hope things get better...
RB
Thanks, Mike. Looks like good stuff. I'm rooting for Reno!

PS: you're right- MAMY's posts, though not real frequent these days, are great!
