Pleurisy? That is supposed to be UNBELIEVABLY painful. For those who don't know, it is an infection of the lining of the lung. Coughing when you have pleurisy is reportedly 'exquisitely painful'.

If you went through that you are a better man than I...I only had pneumonia at age 7. (bows: i am not worthy) I just remember having an intravenous feed and getting endless shots. I DO recall however that ALL the nurses were all VERY tall and VERY pretty. But I was age 6 or 7 and didn't know squat. I do recall my first grade class sending me a sh*tload of get well cards along with the BIGGEST lollipop I had ever seen...from my 1st grade teacher whom I now recall was also a hottie.

Damn!

Seriously, Pleurisy is BAD S*hit.

this is really depressing. I can more or less go to work and function, but I have been taking my lunch break in my car and napping...that's how bad this s*it is.

I too am going back to BEFORE square one. yesterday, while I DID run... I felt worse than I did in 7th grade when I first started running. I recall my first day of running vividly and yesterday I felt like the bottom of a birdcage that had not been cleaned out for a week. the lack of energy is apalling, and I have made mental errors at work all month.

I was on AMOXYCILLIN for 10 days by the way, 250mg 2x daily and, other than prevent pneumonia from settling in, I cannot sense or feel any improvement. I did a glass of Taylor Tawny Port an hour ago and feel better from THAT than I did from the antibiotics. I will do another glass in a few minutes...yahooo! cough cough!

a family physician, by the way, advised a relative of mine that the flu vaccines dished out this past fall and winter were ineffective...they had the wrong strain!!!!

file that away for future reference.

If you cough for more than 24 hours take mucinex (otc) x3 a day and zinc twice a day (do not exceed 50 mg in one day). If you catch the URI early before it sits in your chest you can actually ward off a bad deal.

Yeah, the great thing though is that I was too sick to notice it much. And it only *really* hurt when I laughed, or breathed. Fortunately it responded very readily to medication.

This current thing--flu(?) or whatever--had me much sicker than the pleurisy ever did. I was actually getting intimations of mortality, which, if not exactly scary, were still able to grab my full attention. Six degrees of fever will wake you right up (metaphorically, at least).
