hey 430, did you get banned from dyestat, i hope you did, one less place to read your idiotic posts.
as for the original poster, go with either the milers or lanangs, they are both great spikes and the plate was designed for 800-3000m events

also, while giving my opinion, i also stated the spikes are a personal preference in the end. you cant argue with that; nor can you argue with the fact the you cant go wrong a pair of kennedy xc's or nb1005's and a few other cushioned spikes. with an adequate ammount of cushioning and energy return, theres nothing to worry about. your legs should feel fine the throughout whole race.
in shorter distances, whoever, it may be necessary to wear a more agressive spike that gets you up on your toes and no energy-retun element is needed. obviously i am talking about sprinting events (up to 800meters)
El G wore the original Eldoret plate with a miler upper.
ventulus upper, white with moroccan stars on it. i can find the pic if you want me too.
How do you still not understand that energy return is worse with MORE cushioning. The cushioning absorbs the energy that you place into it upon toe-off. With a hard material the energy is transferred thru to the track with little to no loss.
Energy loss is GREATER with MORE cushioning
Energy loss is LOWER with LESS cushioning
hard surfaces send your legs into a "shock" and therefore they are worn down very quickly into the race. id say the hard plate of the "zoom miler" really takes effect after 200meters. but i still think they are good spikes for a longer distance up to 800 becuase they are lighter than other sprint spikes.
You do realize that hard surfaces make for faster times? By your logic we would run a better mile on something really cushioned because it wont "shock" your legs? Its a mile, not a marathon. You need to be worrying about lactic acid not how much pounding your legs are taking. If you lose energy to cushion that is bad in the mile. Hard surfaces dont "shock" your legs. Is that one of your incredibly intelligent physiology terms. Take a biomechanics course so you can understand basic stride characteristics.

Not if your legs are used to the stresses of running in spikes.
Unless you're a giant pussy, your legs can handle the Milers. I used to run 3200s in them in high school and they worked just fine. My legs were not "shocked". And as far as stating your opinion 430, you also stated as though it was a fact, that the milers did not have enough cushion in them, and were not good for the mile. Therefore, again, you are wrong.
actually during the 2004 olympic games el g wore the miler up and a slightly modified miler plate, the sharkskin on the heal was just extended a little
The milers can be comfortably worn by anyone with decent form through 10K. Absolutely wear them for the mile.
yea, thats what I hear now. And for 430, yes he did wear those Vents, but he also wore the milers, or the milers with a different plate or whatever. the vents were a while ago.
430miler, please stop talking, you have no knowledge in this subject and should never be allowed to argue about running physiology ever again, go back to dyestat with the other high school runners or at least take some college coarses. run in whatever you feel comfortable running in, but keep most thoughts to yourself. let me help you out, buy this book...
"Exercise Physiology: Human Bioenergetics and its Applications" by brooks, fahey, and baldwin.
another good one is...
"Exercise Physiology: Theory and Application to Fitness and Performance"
read up on lydiard, daniels, or just go watch some cartoons. im helping you out, these guys can be pretty brutal on letsrun

here's the deal dude--you're promoting your "opinion" as authority.
maybe, just maybe, you should become a better student of the sport. as stated before, webb wore milers in the 10k. the first time i wore milers (seriously, they arrived in the mail on sat morning) i wore them in a 5k sat night, and got a huge PR. calves/ legs felt great the next day. i wear them for anything 1500m and up.
you have stated that your stress fracture was due to racing in spikes. racing in spikes for long distances and training in them for several weeks running 80% of your mileage on a mondo track might give you a stress fracture, but i doubt it was the spikes. probably a lack of muscular strength and too much concrete running, coupled with high intensity and high volume.
just relax a little, keep learning and stay humble.
Not to back up 430 in any way shape or form, but was Webb really wearing milers in the 10k? or wear they eldo 2s.
My newly found love, the Lanangs.
