Go Pats !!
1 hard run felt great
Nothing like the return of leg spring.
Nothing like running a hard pace and feeling goooood
Now I just have to avoid them icarus urges
They keep popping into my head dam I am stupid
Just finished shoveling 6" of new snow off the walk & drive. Glad I did my long run yesterday, looks like I'm breaking out the xc skis today. Attending the Lincoln Running Club annual party this afternoon, at the expense of watching my beloved Bears, snif. If you're up there Papa Bear, we really need this one.
Snow hard here also. I was hoping to get my run in before it started but it came about 3 AM. If it lets up this afternoon I'll try. I'll start organizing for taxes and watch football. I believe it's snowing in Chicago so that might give Da Bears an edge. I started a massage therapist this week that also specializes in Egoscue so I'm researching that theory. I think the exercises are helping.Have a good week.
I'm all for a Bears/Pats final! Have a feeling these Colts are going to be tough again though.
I think I'm a bit behind most of the posters on here that just got over their colds, etc. I've got a nasty one (pneumonia like coughing) that has caused me to take some days off and hold back on the limited running I've been doing.
Hope you all are doing better.
A treat last weekend to see Patti along with Bill Rodgers featured larger than life during the Houston Marathon pasta dinner. They had a video montage that included past champs on the big screen.
Good, God, it's 37* and raining here. Was supposed to do a 3200m tt with my racing team. Fortunately, I have about a thousand papers to grade and can't afford the hour of driving to the UT track. Of course, that means I'm out the door to run 15 miles...
Pretty good week of running: hard 2 miles last Sunday. Threshold on Wednesday: 2x200R, 4x1600 T (5:22 down to 5:07 with 1:00 rest), 2x200R. Then 12x200R Friday afternoon. 107 miles total. Big 10 mile race next Sat and am hoping for 53:00-54:00 on a rolling course.
The Pinewood Derby car looks great: we put about 10 coats of metallic silver paint on it so it looks like it's covered with smooth aluminum foil. Daughter played in her city champs basketball game and...they lost. (Glad track starts soon--she wants the school record 3200.)
Have a killer week!
Patti's Hubby - Sorry you had to join the nasty cough club! Me, I just came down with my third bug (one flu, two colds now) in less than two months ... as many as I'd had in the previous 5 years! No cough yet with this one (as compared to the previous two), but I can feel the ol' lungs getting tingly as I type.
Other than that, a fairly good week. Wanted to race a 2 mile in a local all-comers meet yesterday, but that went the way of my one week of good health. I'm going to have to train through this cold to have any chance of competing (versus merely participating in) Boulder in three weeks. Haven't raced since San Fran in early December (due to all these bugs), so need to find a 5K race next weekend.
Have to say that I feel lucky we're having good weather in So Cal right now - as opposed to what some of you are experiencing. Otherwise, I think I'd curl up in front of the fireplace with a nice pizza and a case of beer, then pass out and hibernate until spring.
Okay, everyone, have a great week of training ... and be careful in that snow!
Greetings fellow Master Blasters!!! sounds like the 4oth edition of the Harsthorne mile went off with a bang, way to go Alisa Harvey again :o) Sorry I missed this year's version, as Arnold Schwarza....? (however ya spell it) said "I'll be back." Atleast I hope so, I certainly find enough inspiration from you guys week after week!!!
Getting in long easy runs and building a base and feeling like brrrr winter has finally arrived in up-state NY.
Hope you guys are well and keeping warm out there....Best to all............

Sarah, do you have any details? I can't find anything on line and am quite curious about how it turned out.
Out here we are currently in the grips of what I now call YAWS (Yet Another Weekend Snow). This is the 5th consecutive week. My training has therefore been very 'adaptive'. I did manage to race at the Air Force Academy last Sunday (800 and 200), which (no surprise) revealed the need to add in some specific 800 meter training. I hope to drop about 10 seconds by March. A good 200 (for me) somehow, maybe its all that core, strength and flexibility work I've been doing during this snowy season.
Cheers, and Go Bears.
Good morning all,
Not too bad here in the Pacific NW this morning. 35 degrees, but not raining!!!!! It is amazing at what becomes a good weather day after several rounds of wind and snow.
Going out after my third cup of joe for my usual 90+ run in the woods. Hopefully, not as many trees to climb over this week. Still a lot to clean up from last months sea breeze.
Did three workouts (turnover) this week with a solid 80 miles. The best that I have felt in a long time.
Mon 12 x 200 (snow covered track - no watch/no need)
Weds Indoor 7 x 400 (59 avg) - felt really good. I think that I could do quarters all day long. My bread and butter from the past.
Sat 20 min Tempo
Today working the clock for the boys Basketball game and then take in some good football this afternoon. I jinxed the Hawks/Chargers last week so I'm zipping it this week.
Be Consistent,
ynot
50s and perfectly clear here amongst the Alexander Valley vineyards after more than a week of record low temps...logged a third consecutive 50 mile week with one day of long repeats (1200 meter cut down) and another day
of 10 x 200...generally healthy except for a left achilles thats barking even louder than my dog...seems at this age, one is in constant "management nmode" of some kind of injury or another.
I sure do like the Saints today and regardless of outcome, Reggie Bush is a marvel to watch...Chicago is going to have to play a whole lot better than last week to take down the hungry Saints team...also like the way that Pats 'know how to win' when their back is up against the wall...should be two just excellent games as were all four last week.
NEW Orleans and NEW England in the NEW Year!
stay well,
MF
Not a good week here...What happened?? After rolling thru the last 3 months without missing a day and the past 8 weeks over 70, I decided to take Monday off, just because. So Tuesday, I felt totally wupped and took it off too. Wednesday still felt fatigued but made it thru a six miler. Thursday & Friday I still felt drop dead tired and couldn't get it going. Saturday I was busy all day didn't get a run in. I'm sure it was just my body telling me I needed a break, so taking a few days off was probably a good thing! Felt pretty good this morning with a relaxed 10 miler in the cold and wind. Time to get back at it!
Good Runnin'
Dave
Had a great week after finally making the decision to take the Boulder XC race off my calendar. I was pushing it a bit too hard trying to keep my fitness and was fighting through some aches and pains. This week, my back did not hurt at all. Pace was slightly sower than usual for the workouts but I walked away pain-free each day.
SoCal, we've got at least 2 guys making the trek out West. They read/post here so I'll let them chime in if they desire. They should be ready considering we've got ample amounts of snow to train on :)
Greetings to all. I've been set back a bit by a neuroma issue in my right foot. It took two weeks off entirely. Now, after some good advice from J.O'Neill about shoe inserts, I'm back at it. Ran 52 miles this week, including a 12-miler this morning, and the foot feels good.
Don't know what I'm pointing towards right now. Maybe a summer or fall marathon, depending on how long it takes me to build back up to my own pitiful level of excellence.
Best to all.
No details yet track lover, I believe Alisa H ran 4:49 which is a meet record for Masters women and blew away the field. Last year's winner Marisa Hanson a superb runner herself clocked 5:07/08 I heard but I am sure someone will post official results soon enough, or I will if I can get 'em.....The bar is set way high for Masters womens milers, woweee.....exciting stuff. Have a great w-end....

Gee, NW Master: that's a quality set of quarters, especially in January. Are you racing indoors?
How come there was no discussion of this New Masters outdoor 800 record?

I found results of Felipe running a 1:50 in 2000 at age 34, so I am impressed that he has not slowed at all
As I sit here, my bike is dripping brown ice onto newspaper behind me. It's gonna be filthy after it dries out...as was half my clothing not long ago.
When I started off on the bike this early afternoon, my biggest concern was the 25 degrees and steady wind from the SE. I can handle that so got going thinking it'd be a slightly uncomfortable ride. Wrong.
I'd gone about a mile when I felt some ice pellets hit my face. Didn't give it much thought...altho I knew snow was in the area. I hoped it wouldn't get worse. After about 20 minutes it became clear the icy rain wasn't going to let up & I hoped it wouldn't ice the roads up. I had to stop after 25 min to wipe the ice off my glasses. 10 min later I removed the iced-up-again glasses & stowed them in my waistband...and carried on.
I'd worn the right clothing so I didn't get soaked thru but by the end of the 26 miles, my crotch & upper thighs were iced over, jacket iced over and boots caked in brown ice. It wasn't ice/raining very hard but just enough to make me wish I was doing something else. Thank goodness I didn't flat out there.
A 10:00 am start would've been a smart move today.
As a fellow masters runner I'm interested in your 'take' on this comeback by Henry Rono, who at age 55 is 'in training' to compete this coming spring and summer. He is posting his workouts which seem to consist of running for an hour and a 1/2 to 2 hours per day; of slow jogging to this point, even though he admits that he's still 25 lbs overweight. I don't know what to make of the whole thing. Some say he's a fraud, that he couldn't possibly be running that much and barely losing any weight; others are giving him the benefit of the doubt and even giving him eating/dieting tips. What do YOU think of the whole, strange scenerio?
