Has anyone on here ever injured their peroneal tendon? I think I may have strained mine running in the snow. I did not fall or roll it or anything like that, but perhaps some kind of overuse injury because my ankle/tendon was not used to landing on such soft surfaces without any real stability. It hurts when I go DOWN stairs and/or when I try to face the sole of my foot outwards (i.e. if I have my leg straight in front of me and bring the big toe down to turn the sole out). The majority of the pain is just below the bone on the outside of the ankle.
I'm doing the usual massage, ice, rest... but I am sick of resting when it doesn't seem to be improving.
Will easy running on firm surfaces aggravate it? How hard am I allowed to massage it (without making it worse)? And what is the usual prognosis for recovery?
There is a visible cut on the tendon just below the ankle bone from where it must have been rubbing against the shoe.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
