Well, I was impressed USATF got some of it's golden spike meets on live tv this year.
Little did I know how bad things would soon get.
Instead of watching the Golden League Rome meet on tv tonight in prime time tv, I'm watching on ESPN the Marathon de Sable, the 6 day marathon across the sahara. I must admit I'll watch just about anything with running but this is a terrible documentary. I'm turning it off.
I know ESPN is heading more towards this direction with less sporting events, but I hope this thing gets terrible ratings. It is really poorly done and I hope the people at ESPN didn't pay too much for it.
And I'm already counting the days until when next year's olympic trials (for sure the marathon) aren't on tv. I don't understand why people don't jump at the Olympic Trials and put them on national tv. Americans understand two things when it comes to sports, drama and the Olympics. Well the Marathon trials, of course they have the Olympic part. And the drama is inherently there. As the emininem song goes, "What if you had one shot". They could play up the fact people have trained all their lives for this one day, and they won't get another shot (well at least for 4 more years).
Yes some tv exec is saying "well running doesn't sell in the US". Well then what the hell is this sahara thing doing on prime tv? There's drama in every race obviously, and the Olympic Trials have way more drama than this sahara thing.
