Anyone read the article on that guy in prison in the new Outside magazine? I think his name was Jon Gill from Michigan...he is in prison in Salem & is coached by Dick Brown from Eugene

I read that article it was pretty good, wonder how he will turn out... it doest really seem like he can get that many miles in being in prison and all.
Man is on a mission, that's for sure. In the article it says he's out of prison this summer, so we'll...
Being "on a mission" doesn't make someone 10 years younger or mean that other people aren't just as motivated in much better situations. He MIGHT end up running well enough to make it to the trials, but even with the current crop of Americans his chances are Slim & none...and Slim just left the building. And....I'd love to be wrong--everybody loves a miracle.
I agree. I said "on a mission" but I think he underestimates the drive and dedication of other runners. And he is getting old for middle distance. I wonder why he's not considering 5000m?
Note that we learn very little about Gill's PR's and can only guess how fit he is now. The story reads like a snow job to me. I'm at a loss to know why a normally fine mag like Outside would run such a fluff, hypothetical piece.
I suggest when Gill gets out he'd have trouble running 5 min pace for 5 km. Something also tells me the author is either stretched Dick Brown's comments or Dick has a whole lot more to say about the guy's chances.
Agree with scottieboy. Very little evidence that the guy is any good besides his coach's endorsement. He'll run one decent race, but won't do anything of substance. He has some nerve to rip on other people though. The article makes him sound like a moron.
