Has anyone had a stress fracture of the tibia? How long with no running? Is cross training ok? Any restrictions?
Any other suggestions?

I hate to discourage you but I had a tibia stress fracture a number of years ago and it seemed to take forever to heal. I don't think that I was able to even try running for about 10 weeks and even after that, there was some pain for a while. Of course, everyone is different and your recovery might be shorter.
I did a lot of biking and water running while I was off. You may have trouble with the biking at first though if your leg is very painful.
I too had a stress fracture of the tibia. I was out for 10 weeks and then had to slowly build up again. This went fine until I hit the track 6 or 7 months later and sure enough the pain came back. The only thing that fixed me up was orthotics and since then things have been fine. While I was out of action I took a few weeks off just to relax, then did some swimming and bike riding just to get out and about. I also did a heap of core work, basically just things to build strength and a bit of stamina without having to use the legs.
I am just recovering from a stress fracture in my tibia. I took 12 long weeks off. I have been running for three weeks now. I am up to 4 miles now and am going every other day. I started out real slow, 7-10 minute runs then am just building slowly a few minutes every run. I still feel a real dull ache after i get done, but People have told me that this is normal. Scar tissue or something that is being broken up. I can walk/run on it fine, so I dont think im aggravating anything. If anyone knows any more about recovery pleaselet me know.
I had one my senior of high school in track , was running the two mile , and came around the final turn running strong was gonna pr, i had a really good chance of doing at good at state that year to.. and then with my luck ,, my tibia decides to crack almost in two.. i was out for about two or three months... it was horrible pain , i dont know if yours was that bad , my doc said it was the worst he had ever seen
I got one during my jr year in high school. I did no running for 5 weeks and ran for a week in attempt to run at our sectional cross meet. It still wasnt healed, but no damage was done. After the meet I sat out for about 3 or 4 more weeks. The whole time I pooled run every day. You go in the deep end of a pool and wear some kind of flotation belt. It seemed to keep me in somewhat good shape. Straight swimming always seemed to borrow it a little bit. At the time I wasnt going to a really good doctor which might have sped up the healing process. I would recommend find a good running doctor if you have one in your area. When you come back you will need to get some massage therapy to work out the scar tissue. When you first start running again you will probably experience an aching pain. Good luck with everything.

Gimpy, do as little activity as possible on your gimpy leg. When I was coming back from my tibial stress fracture, I had to go into physical therapy for a couple weeks because my muscles had atrophied pretty badly.
take enough time off until you can run entirely pain free. i thought i could be a hardass and run the rest of my track season on a tibia stress fracture... now i have a completely cracked tibia and fibia and have to miss 10 months of running instead of 10 weeks.
I have been off for 4 months so far with a stress fracture of my tibia. However, I ran on it for 2 months before giving in to a bone scan and it was pretty bad. After about 8 weeks off the pain while walking stopped. I have been swimming and aqua jogging. I am pretty nervous about reinjuring it, so I want to give it enough time to fully heal.
I wish that I would have gone in a booty or on crutches for the first 2-4 weeks...I think that helps it heal more quickly.
