Can't count Marius Bakken, he transfered there from another country (under questionable circumstances) and only ran 1 year.

There were no questionable circumstances. That lie has been circulated way too often, so unless you have some hard data, shut up. Jim Gross, a local minister whose son David was a member of the York track team, suggested Marius attend York after Marius had listed on his request for being a foreign exchange student that he "liked to run." So Jim told the exchange service that perhaps Marius should come to York as a result. That is how Marius ended up at York.
He has suffered enough bullshit because of the lies people tell. You just added to it.
You can add or not add Marius, as if it made a bit of difference in this debate. He ran at York for his 12th grade, period. Deal with it.
Well, I got to give that to you. Mzungu. That team hands down beats anything the US ever had or will have. Holy cow!
there was a suggestion a one point that a st. patrick's alum team might be brought to the penn relays for a shot at the 4x800 WR. that would be something to see.
In all fairness, St. Patrick's is the "all-star" program (youth development camp) for one of the most talented running nations on earth, it is not comparable to anything in the U.S. school system. Perhaps if Ritz, Webb and Hall were to all transfer to the same (boarding) school, and all train and live together, and this went on each year for decades, you would have a fractional approximation of the St Patrick's situation. Not to diminish Brother Colm's program, but to compare it to the U.S. system isn't comparing apples and apples by any stretch.
sounds like a plan. where do we put it, how much does it cost, and where can i apply for a teaching position.
Hammond High 1975

2 days later,

ron craker ran 8:51 (not 8:53) for york in the fall of 1975.
south hs of eugene was incredible in the 1970s. 2 steeple HS records (9:06 and 8:50), 10,000m (29:06), as well as several relay records, 4:04 and 4:05 milers (w/several more sub 4:10s), three sub 9 or equivalent 2 milers.
Take another hard look at Jesuit. No. 1 in my mind.

Newton has won many titles, but no comparison.

Pretty defensive about the Bakken topic. That just makes me believe all the more that there was something unusual about him running at York. It makes you sound like you're hiding something. After all, if it wasn't true, you wouldn't get so upset. Also, if you run for them, your response makes me wonder about the sportsmanship and moral standards of the team. Cursing and telling people to shut up because of a simple comment really shows maturity.
I'm 50 years old and was actually there during Marius' time at York; I'm friends with Jim Gross so I actually know the truth and I saw how much Marius was hurt by the lies and hate people spread about him. I seriously doubt you were there, and your screen name tells me everything I need to know about you. Since you persist in spreading the lie that caused so much pain, I told you to shut up. Unless you can offer proof to the people who read this board that somehow, some way, Newton recruited Marius, I think you should just simply admit you have something against Marius and whatever it is is causing you to continue to spread the lie years after it should have died.
Telling the truth is hardly being defensive. Since you don't seem willing to believe the truth, I'll leave it to the people who read this thread to determine who is being defensive. And who is being harmful. If you think telling a lie about a great runner and a great team is a "simple comment" what does that say about you? In terms of maturity? "Simple comments" like yours have real world implications, but you sure don't seem to care about it.
the illinois state meet course is short-- EVERYONE knows that...
What does the length of the Illinois state meet course have to do with how good a team York is?
I would like to add to Jesuits High, Carmichael, CA's accomplishments. Tom O'Neil ran a 2:27 marathon while there and he, Pete Gaul and Rod Read all broke 30 minutes for six miles at the old Lompoc Festival on the track in Lompoc, CA.
The coach, Walt Lange, has done a lot with talent and without talent. He was had a freshman, Peter Mc Carry who couldn't break 12 minutes for two miles after his freshman cross country season. By his senior year he was section two mile champ breaking 9:20.
For the Mission San Jose person Tom Smith actually ran 3:54 in 1984 behind Joachuin Cruz at the Pepsi meet.
Kurt Messersmith wasn't coached by Tyson. I was his teammate in 1983 and Tom Buckner was the coach until after Kurt graduated.
