How does this guy train, anything like what D.Krum trains?
How does this guy train, anything like what D.Krum trains?
Around the 1996 Olympics I remember reading that he does
some incredible 1000m repeats and unbelievable 300m repeats! Now that you mention his training I am going
to have to try and remember where I read that and post
it here. If someone don't beat me to it.

thats funny hey was training so hard around the 1996 Olympics seeing as how he still didn't have Dainish citizenship and was ineligible to compete!
The year Kipketer broke Coe's record there was a blurb in USA today where Dick Patrick described the following workout:
20x200 in 25-26, 30 sec. rest, take a 10 min. break, do it again.
How's that one grab ya? I found it hard to believe but you never know.

You do know that just because he didn't compete in the 1996 olympics that the year 1996 still did exist in the world of Wilson Kipketer, right?
His calender didn't suddenly skip from 1995 to 1997.
That's like saying, "no, only we here in the united states have a 4th of July".
Thank You BisonHurdler
It is nice to see a ray of intelligence shine thru the
dark cloud of ignorance.

If I remember correctly, Wolhuter periodically did a workout of 20x 200 in 29 seconds with 60 seconds rest between them.
Of course Kipketer is much faster.
But unless he starts where he stops that rest is probably more than 30 seconds.
A friend of mine often did that workout and said he took 30 seconds rest. One time I timed him and the rests were 60 seconds. He timed the rests, but didn't include the time it took him to check the watch and then reset it before starting again.
Anything more about Wilson Kipketer training?
I would not doubt it
i read in a paper how he trains with his polish coach
the coach was from the soviet style and it later went on to mention how the coach would set up cones and such on the inside of the track and kipketer during his repeats would have to have a certain stride length and frequency, if he didnt get it right he kept repeating. so by really the end of a season running a 25 200m was in the muscle memory and he would be very consistent 25 25 25 25 etc in so many strides and in a certain stride length for efficiency
I read much the same about Kipketer's training. It really isn't that different from some published accounts of Coe's (or Ovett's or even some of Ryun's). I have an old Athletics Weekly with Coe listed as running 15 200 repeats in 23 sec, jogging for 5 minutes and repeating, before going on to run intervals of other distances in the same workout. Very similar to some of what has been published about Kipketer. Kipketer's use of the cones is different from the others mentioned, but in some ways close to Vbjorn Rodal's training, at least the little bit that was published. In the off season, Rodal would run in an underground tunnel with markers indicating the "yardage". Of course, this is due to the somewhat unfriendly weather in Norway. As with Kipketer, he would sometimes go to sunnier climes in the winter. In the spring/summer, Rodal sometimes would have the cones set up for "tempo" as well. Hey, what does it matter? These guys can do these workouts because they are that good. Or is it they are that good because they can do these workouts ... ? No doubt it's the former. Kipketer has bounced back real well.
Kipketer wasn't eligible for Danish citizenship in '96. Them's the breaks.
BTW - I have an old TAFNews listing Wohlhuter's training. He would run a series of 200's between 24 and 26. Amazing thing about him was the low mileage, considering he was a 1:43/3:36/3:53 guy, great for his day. He was hitting 40 - 60 MPW. The low mileage may have hindered his strength a bit, but his results remain impressive. How many guys do we have NOW that are capable of this? Krummy. No one else is showing the consistency except Krummy. I didn't even think Krummenacker would be running this well, but my hat's off to him. Let's hope some others follow his example. He's been in the thick of it most every time out.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
