I still feel that it is wrong for the coach to do this without some sort of reprimand. Even if the NCAA doesn't act on it, I would like them at least to know about the issue.

At the very least, I'd like the AD or coach to acknowledge fault so that we can receive some assurance that other track teams are playing fair.

I think you were right that it is not the sole responsibility of the track officials to make sure rules are enforced properly. Indeed, coaches and athletes have a responsibility to uphold the rules and regulations of the sport above all. Otherwise, as you said, it is not true sport. When Dr. Caldwell said that it is up to the meet officials that was like saying "If one of our athletes uses performance enhancing drugs and runs an NCAA qualifier, it's up to the testing labs to catch them. If no one catches them using, then they should be allowed into Nationals."

But I also think you should give up on this and move on. It's too late and I can guarantee they will not own up to any wrongdoing. The time for action was prior to the NCAA meet. That time has long since passed. Just move on dude.

if you can demonstrate that the email exchange that you had was real, i think you should write to the local papers in winston-salem. this is not a huge scandal, but there is a demonstrated pattern of deceit and, frankly, the AD's responses (assuming they are real) are so pitiful that they deserve to be published in the local press.

if the local press isn't interested, you should forward the email exchange and back up information to the school paper.

unless, of course, you think it would be wrong to provide what the AD probably thought were private communications to the press.
