A singer -- oh crap, I can't remeber his name -- black guy, really good voice, sang Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire in the late 50s or 60s, was a 6-8 high jumper for USF (San Francisco).
he is actually best known for singing "Chances Are" and "When Sunny gets Blue." he went to high school at galileo, same year as my Mom way back whenever that was.

Bill Cosby had a mildly funny bit about him high jumping in hs. He jumped about 5-7 or 5-8

_______
He was DQ'd for not having a legal address when it was revealed he lived in a cardboard box, down by the river!!
Don't insult Doyle Brunson by saying he ran the 1600. In his day of real men, they ran the full mile.
barry gibbs' PRs from HS:
1:56
4:19
9:25
As an adult I think he ran a 2:32 marathon, so he was more of a speed guy...look it up

I heard some rumor that Tom cruise ran a 414 mile in high school but im not sure about this one. does anyone know if he was a runner and if he did indeed run this fast?
Not sure of his times but a couple running buddies met him at the premier of his prefontaine movie. They said he was very nice and was complaining it was hard to get runners for his movie because all the skinny guys in Hollywood aren't fit, they just smoke and don't eat. Must be a bit of a running fan to produce that movie.

Chuck Norris could lap all these guys in a mile . . . twice.
He could also lap all of them once in an 800.
John Belushi was a hell of an athlete.

It was a van, not a cardboard box. He wasn't doing well, but at least he had his van.
Carl Lewis was SUB-10 100 meter runner before he became legendary thespian: http://youtu.be/76KI6KcG9aI

Is that documentary available in stores? How fast was this forrest gump at 10k?
Gump would have been insane at the 10k. Football star speed+ the stamina for cross country runs. He'd outkick Farah definitely, and maybe break Bekele's record.
I don't know about his athletic achievements, but I'm fairly sure that Tom Cruise invented White Out. Unless the inventor was the mother of one of the members of The Monkees.
Who cares about Tom Cruise? He's freaking CRAY CRAY!
Anyone can run 414 seconds or faster in the mile if they even put in the slightest effort in running.
while this is post got bumped recently (from probably a few years ago), OP's: LEARN TO DOCUMENT TIME PROPERLY.

And don't forget the Olympic gold in ping pong.

Chestnuts Roasting on An Open Fire isn't the title. The title is A Christmas Song.
And like a dozen or so famous black singers from the 50s, 60s covered that song - Johnny Mathis (who I think youre thinng of), Nat King Cole, James Brown, Sammy Davis Jr., Smoky Robinson, and those are just the ones I can rattle off the top of my head.
As far as Cosby goes, I heard he was working on a new stand up special, like his first in 30 years, for Comedy Central.

Monkee Mike Nesmith's mother invented liquid paper.
http://www.snopes.com/music/artists/nesmith.aspBenjamin Bailey, host of the television program Cash Cab, fell down during the New Jersey MOC 4X8, costing his team a shot at the podium. He later popularized vodka tampons, which were invented by Haile Gebrselassie.
Nicolas Cage defecated in his half tights during a sprint medley anchor leg his junior year of high school.
Michael Bloomberg is currently training for his 4th 24-18-12-6 challenge.
Funny that Cruise's Wikipedia page mentions that he played linebacker for a catholic high school (and got kicked off the team for getting drunk), but not a word about running exploits.
Maybe Tom's the perfect choice for playing Kip Litton.
