If we combine quitting and kicked out, James "Buster" Douglas. Lee H Oswald put in for hardship discharge. Only about 70% make it all the way to end of four year contract to honorable discharge.
It's the same as being rejected by Stanford. 2/3rds of males can't make it through boot camp. It's a badge of honor to have tried and failed Marine boot camp. If you make it then it really gets insane. Marines are a cult of nut cases. They feed on each other barbarism. If you flake out your'e done.
When do you start counting? If the counting starts AFTER basic training and AFTER primary school, percentage may be close to 80% for entire Department of Defense. You must be counting medical discharges under honorable conditions as honorable discharges.
In order not have a huge argument with types like you, I wanted to state the truth, it less than 70% who receive honorable discharge. I am not including upgrades a year after active duty.
That's not the regular military. It's the marines. If the marines didn't beat the male marines with their bare fists in face during basic training then how can they tell if they'd survive active duty?

If I posted incorrectly, which may happen, that is better than me being correct and Buster Douglas' brief time in USMC basic training expunged. I known gentlemen to drop out of USMC basic training and no record exists of brief few days or few weeks in basic training.
If you get out of US Marines boot camp escaping with your life, limbs, sight, dick, hearing, and functional brain, you're a winner for life whether or not you're kicked out and sent back home to mummy, thrown away to the standard military branches, or remain in the Marines.

Douglas didn't show the required dedication, was beaten by one of the D.I.s, sent to the Navy hospital, then kicked out on a DD. No big deal. Millions have had the same.

Not Me, I was NEVER Accepted due to my History of Psychological Problems, I have Never had a fight with a Drill Instructor, I did take the 50 Question Test, then the ASVAB Test, then the Recruiter asked me a bunch of Questions and When he asked if I had ever been in a Hospital? I answered Honestly Just Mental Hospitals, He said that could be a problem, I told him it would NOT be as that was before I was 18 and The head Social Worker told me, This will not hurt you in looking for jobs, I did not know he Lied to me, The Recruiter called me a few Days later, he said The Military Doctor in San Diego looked at My Records from the Mental Hospitals and I was NOT Accepted, I told Him I thought The USA Military was better than that, So I never got in,. that is what happened.
