I mean your guess is probably better than the average schmo off the street. But, it's a guess none the less.

if they can see me beating the snake for hours without getting h a r d then giving me some cialis is a pretty f**king good guess.
When you were born, the doctor had to take a wild guess as to what to put in the father space, he finally gave in and wrote: NY Knickerbockers Practice Squad.
Hahahahahahahaha.......
Maybe, but also maybe heavily influenced by big pharma
Doctor: someone who practices medicine and then charges (or bills Medicare) like they know what they are doing.
General Practice Doc for ill person: Antibiotics. Doesn't matter what the illness is.
Podiatrist for hurt foot: Orthotics and cortisone injection. How long will I need the orthotics? For the rest of your life!
Orthopedic surgeon for any pain: Cortisone shot, 6 weeks of Physical Therapy, then surgery.
It's definitely not like being a garbage collector, don't really need to guess which lever to pull to flip the can over into the truck.
Sorry, don't mean to disparage garbage collectors just using them as an example to try to ask what is your point? Doctors aren't needed? Doctors don't have more education/skill than other jobs?
its not really a guess its more like an expert recommendation based on a decision following a detailed evaluation / lots and lots and lots and lots of training.
I get the sense that a very real tendency in medicine for many years now has been to play it very safe: order more tests, refer to specialists, call for an excess of follow-up appts., and probably over-prescribe out of an abundance of precaution. Doctors are very wary today of being sued, and they are excessively defensive and gun-shy.
Wow, so many losers, incels, and Dungeons and Dragons players here! so FIERCE
Dumb non-take take. The whole point of doctors is that their expertise and guesses are significantly better than the average person (with Internet and generative AI) and that gap is what they get paid for. All professions are like that: economists and investment managers make guesses (and can’t even outperform the market); engineers who build bridges do exact calculations whose breaking point tolerances are based in good part on “reasonable guesses”; pilots make guesses in times of trouble; CEOs take huge risks with their guesses on tech trends.
I can’t think of any lucrative profession that doesn’t involve guesses, just the extent of guessing and the consequences of mistakes vary.
You better start putting some respeck on this profession….
You mean you guys know this? Suppose to be a secret!!!
(deep down we all intrinsically know that it is the Chiro's, the Nattypaths, and the Homeopathers that really KNOW the score, but supposed to be secret)
Which kind of doctors? Radiologists? Dermatologists? Ophthalmologists? Surgeons?
Not a physician but saw the research a few years ago that showed less than 40% of medical care provided in the US is supported by clinical evidence. That doesn't mean 60% of care provided is a guess. Most physicians practice within a certain range based on their training, tradition and local norms under the broad authority of generally acceptable practice. Beyond that there are situations where many physicians just don't know and they don't have the time, interest, or the incentive to be Dr. House so they make an educated best guess on next steps so they can move on. Please note that Dr. House often made educated guesses and was wrong. Also note that very few physicians will admit that they don't know. I had a family member with a rare form of cancer. Her local medical oncologist consulted directly with the two leading (only) national experts in developing a successful treatment plan. I have another family member that has a chronic illness. We can't find a local provider who is the least bit interested in learning anything about the disease but will prescribe what we report other specialists have done. We pay our money and take our chances.
BTW, anyone that suggests medical care in the US is subpar is ignorant. Imperfect for sure with some variation in skill and knowledge at the treatment level, and the system is inefficient but most of the physicians I have worked with over 25 years have been exceptional IMHO.
Ivermectin doesn't bring in profits for the big fraudmaceuticals industry.
But it's an educated guess.
A family practice doctor's job is to humor you with BS until time solves the problem.
Doctors deserve respect. Don't be a hater.
I've learned to just get an MRI for anything that lingers for more than a month, because far more often than not, the doctors I've seen were wrong.
