Not sure of anything coming close.

I'm pretty sure they've got some BBQ places that are better than a fast food chain, but I could be wrong about that.
Whataburger has gone down hill dramatically since it was sold. In my area even Sonic is better. I ate at the Whataburger in Cleaburne a month ago and I swore to never to go back the food was so bad.
Rudy’s
Pappacitos
Saltgrass
Texas Land and Cattle
Pappadeuxs
Truth. Whataburger is a venerable Texas institution ruined. Both food quality and service times are terrible now. I don't get fast food very often, but when I do, Whataburger doesn't even enter my mind anymore.

I prefer Texas Roadhouse
Chains for poor people with poor taste. Best chain restaurant ? not even that. Quit eating at these crappy chains. Most towns big and small have so many better options
SMH....Texas Roadhouse isn't even a Texas restaurant. It was started in Indiana.
Restaurant or fast food? You could make a case for it being the best fast food but not even close if we are just talking about restaurants in general.
I used to quite like Schlotzsky’s back when I was in Austin, as well as their ad tagline “funny name, serious sandwich”.

It has Texas in the name so it's a Texas restaurant. Outback Steakhouse is an Australian restaurant.
Pluckers.
Hopefully the brojos and 430miler will chime in here.
When my wife and I moved to Texas 2 years ago, we were really excited to try Whataburger. It was the first place we went out to eat at. Major let down. I ordered the chili cheeseburger and it had mustard on it. Who puts mustard on chili? Is that a Texas thing?
Whataburger is a safe bet when you are far from home and need a burger. Serviceable burger. Chocolate shake is the winner. Pro tip: never use the drive thru. You will always get behind the baseball mom who is ordering fifteen different meals. Go inside to order.
If you are around Austin, P. Terry's and Hat Creek are really good and pretty cheap. At Hat Creek, you can get beer and your kids can play with McCallister and Talmadge on the playground.

The Salt Lick was my favorite back when I lived in Austin. I was also fond of Threadgill's, but I think it has closed.
