I have recently taken over a program that, put bluntly, has been sort of a mess for years. Equipment is scattered, missing, etc. Things have not been maintained for some time.
That said, me and the rest of our coaching staff have been working to figure out everything that we have as well as what we still need, and trying to get everything up to par to make it easier for us to maintain.
As for the long jump pit, in the past it has been left out exposed to the air. I was thinking we should probably cover it this offseason, however, dedicated covers are expensive and out of our budget currently. Down the line, sure, but I am looking to do something for the time being. Could I get away with using a large tarp and weighing down with sandbags or cinder blocks?? Any thoughts?
Also, if you have any other thoughts or ideas, let me know. Our pole vault pit is pretty much wrecked as the mats have been left out for the entire winter multiple times over with no cover- I think we may be SOL but if anyone has any thoughts there on restoration please share also.
