1. Pick it up
2. catch that guy in front of you
3. dont bend over, hands over your head (when trying to catch your breath after a race)
4. Dont drink water, or you’ll cramp up
5. gotta lay it on the line in practice more
Show me some guts! (even though I had no surgical implements)
Do double threshold

Lol I know people like this. A dude did 400 repeats like 2 days before a meet bc he wants to "work hard."
You are my favorite poster on this message board. Thank you.
...but (lack of) it does not 'cause' cramps. It is caused by repetitive use muscle fatigue. Many people get it in bed in their arch or calf...what happened to their electrolyte? A summary of research on this (Ross Tucker et al) indicated that too was just 'fatigue', arch is permanently contracted while sleeping etc...fatigue
The ex used to jump out of bed at random times, hopping all over the bedroom in pain, was hilarious!!

No speed, no easy running; just marathon pace.
At least 40km at 'race pace' is required, but what harm can 'all runs at marathon pace' do vs say , too fast or too slow that it doesn't matter.

that 18-20 miles is plenty while preparing for the marathon
Though, sub 2:30 PB here, and still never do more than 32km in long run (for marathon distance), after 49yrs of marathon..you have to understand that is not the only run of week, you are not tapering for it etc, and makes you able to do the rest of your training more efficiently
Actually, I no longer care that people don't follow advice, never give it unless asked to help, and even then only if they understand why and will execute it. i.e. don't waste my time.
I got told once to not use a running wrist watch in a cross country race because it would "weigh me down"

Get a Covid vaccine or you will die and never run again.
Absurd in 2021/22. Funny in 2024.
Define your entire personality by one year. Never move on from it. Make it your entire personality. Interject it into every interaction. Nothing beyond this topic will ever matter again. People will avoid you and think you are weird. Your only social outlet will be an obscure message board, but that’s ok because real people will be uncomfortable around you. That’s how you know it’s working!
Started running high school cross-country in 1973. My teammates said if you get stomach cramps to do three somersaults to get rid of them. I was in my first race and got cramps. Three times during that race on a golf course I dove to the ground and somersaulted three times before springing back up to continue racing. It didn’t help get rid of my cramps, so I never tried it again.
Breathe in your nose and out your mouth.

Millions did
Not really advice, but a coaching decision: the random fast 600s and 400s on the Thursday before a Saturday meet in XC season never made any sense to me.
