just going apples to apples - OLY standards are 13:05 and 27 - I'm assuming that "formula" is balanced - as you inferred - 5k time X2 + 1 min is a good rule of thumb
Do any of you aspire to anything in your lives? Do you ever dream of bigger things? Hell even in running I guarantee you every single person sh*tting on him has had thoughts in their mind going into a training cycle of what they could be that was well beyond what they were currently at.

Yes, it's important to believe you are faster than you actually are as long as this does not result in poor training and racing strategy. Perhaps a good way to describe it is that you should strongly believe in your *capacity* to achieve any given fitness level.
He’s better than 13:24 — his 2022 seasons were solid, and ran 13:24 indoors, 13:25i in a championship setting. If he is back to the form he was in that year, I think he has 13:10ish capacity. 27:00 is a reach but he can run 27:20s.
I'd be more concerned that pacing is going to be nowhere hear 27 flat pace. Is anyone else in the race going for it? Do we know what the pacing for the night of the 10,000s is going to be? I might go there.
I'm not trying to be facetious but this is exactly why I come to LRC. A 13:24 guy can break 27:00 but Jakob will never beat any of El G's records. It's just priceless. I'm not hating on the guy, I hope he does it, but just like everyone is saying about Jakob, he doesn't have the shorter event success...yet. But for some reason he gets a pass where Jakob doesn't.

Likely 27:00 Oly Q, as Charles Hicks recently stated that is his goal in his post-OR Twilight race video interview.
Imagine there will be pacers for those chasing the Oly Q as well as pacers for the rest of the field.

Certainly both can be true.
A talent like Sprout can still be positive about his prospects, if healthy and coming off good training...
...and Jakob can indeed threaten El G. Jakob is still young, he still prs every year, and he is in range of El G now with other guys in the field to push too.
It's not like either of these guys is a 4:20 miler claiming they will make the Olympics.

And, pacing lights.
It’s paced for the Trials standard of 27:45. Not 27:00. The pacer isn’t entered in the entry list either.
Somebody listed Eric Linden as a pacer a few posts above, he is not the pacer. These real shot of hitting the OQ in the 10k in the US is only at The ten, the timing is just bad once we get closer to the Trials.
Here is the schedule -- last races of the night are the UK/Paris OLY races -- but note that the entry link has the 2023 entries so has yet to be updated:

Here’s the link to the 2024 entries for the Night of 10K PBs. Seems like the organisers have accidentally linked to the 2023 start list. Hicks is on page 2.
