Background: Junior HS, 140lb 5'8 18:35 PB 2023 XC, No training over the winter
I started running on the first day of track practice around late March. My first trial was around a week into track running a 5:32 mile and then a couple days later ran a 2:19 in the 800 trial. Fast forward a month later, I just recently ran a 5:03 1600 this past Saturday and last week ran a 2:12 800. I had a dual meet yesterday and ran a 5:13. I'm wondering if I have the potential to break 4:50 and 2:08 in about 3 weeks from now.
Here are my splits for some races I've had
5:03 - 70, 2;24, 3;41, 5;03
5:13 70, 2;24, 3;46, 5;13
2;13: 31, 61, 1:36, 2;13
2;12 61, 71
Also I've been running with shin splints this whole time. My plan is just to see how far I can get and try to push past the pain for the time being. Does anybody have advice with this and how could I possibly heal or strengthen my shins. Like I mentioned before, I did not do any training this winter and actually kinda surprised how far I've gotten. I am feeling pretty confident with my 800 goal, but something I have realized in the 1600 is that my first 3 laps go really good with all of the splits being in the 70's but my last lap is always the worst.
Thanks.
