It's wild to me that Germany has more 2:08 or faster marathon runners than they do sub 13:30 5,000m runners in 2023/2024. They've got 6 guys 2:08 or faster and only 5 sub 13:30 guys. And they only have 2 sub 3:35 1500m guys in 2023/2024.
The US has 14 sub 3:35 1500m guys in 2023/2024, and 51 sub 13:30 5,000m guys, and only 4 2:08 or faster times.
Either few fast Germans stay on the track, or few fast Americans leave the track.
Robert Farkin is German, right? He’s run 3:32 IIRC?
Robert Farken PB: 3:32,10
Bartelsmeyer: 3:34,39
Marius Probst: 3:35,35
These are currently the best 1500m runners in Germany.
And yes, Marathon scene is very strong but on the track no one can compete internationally.
Let's see who can even get to the Olympics.
5000 we have Parsons, Bienenfeld, Abdilaahi, Thorwirt potentially going to Paris.
It doesn't have to be an either/or thing.
Is OP actually Sam Parsons? Seems the type of attention seeking he would do.... oh look he just posted on IG that he 'blacked out' after failing to hit the Euro Standards in the China DL 5000 the other day
Always an excuse with that team, never much accountability
It sort of does. There are only so many 'good' distance runners. Any of the sub 13:30 5,000m guys who are over the age of 23 who aren't under 13:10 for the US should probably try their hand at the marathon unless they're somehow speed oriented. A 13:18 guy isn't going anywhere on the track, but you'd think a 13:18 5,000m guy could run 2:08 if they focus on the marathon for a year or two. So you could be irrelevant on the track or you could be an olympic qualifier in the marathon. So the result is maybe you only have 35 sub 13:30 5,000m guys but now you have 10 2:08 or better guys.
