I don’t know what to make of the contradiction in black culture: on the one hand, they want to portray themselves as streetwise, tough, hard, or for the women, as powerful queens who are made of magic. On the other hand, they are endlessly whining for participation trophies lately. Right now black social media is nothing but crying about Clark and how it’s so racist that fans are interested in a player setting all-time records.
If she increases viewership, they all benefit. Just as all the white guys benefitted while Tiger was dominating golf. I wouldn’t know who Phil Mickelson was if not for Tiger. Black players shouldn’t be criticizing Clark, they should be promoting her.
How so? If the owners simply feel this way, it is racist. But if they have actual analytics, such as market analysis based on demographics and consumer behavior, this is just another professional decision. How do you know what the owners feel, by the way?
If the shoe companies believe this and it's not so, the owners are racist.
If it is true, the public is racist.
How do I know how the companies think? Based on their actions of giving 3 white players their own shoes and no black players when blacks are the majority of the league
The owners feel they can market white WNBA players better than black ones.
Because the entire country is talking about Clark. She is the main reason for the increased viewership of the women’s Final Four.
Why is the racism limited to women’s basketball? Sha’Carri probably has one of the top endorsement deals in track. Because she sells, she gets eyeballs and clicks.
Simone Biles is the face of gymnastics. Serena with tennis for over a decade.
Just because racism does not inform all decisions does not mean it does not exist.
It's racist that black people don't want to buy WNBA shoes? If there was a market, I'm sure the companies would be there to make money.
It's racist if the shoe companies don't think the public wants to buy shoes endorsed by black players. Either the companies are wrong and are racist or they are right and the public is racist.

This really isn't that hard
Many black NBA players have their own signature shoe because there's a market for it. These same companies don't, as of yet, think that most WNBA players are marketable enough to warrant a shoe.
Is it racism when they have a black male signature shoe but not a black woman signature shoe?
The WNBA is a business. Shoe companies are businesses
Businesses make business decision based on what will make them the most money. And at the current time, they've decided 3 white women will help them sell the most shoes.
This underscores a commonly misunderstood racial dynamic.
No one thinks liking Caitlin Clark makes someone a racist or that her fame & “marketability” is ONLY due to her race & not her talent. MOST ppl support who they identify with. Theres just more white ppl. There’s nothing wrong with that.
But it’s also INSANE for anyone say that race is not a factor in Caitlin Clark’s perceived marketability and fame. Tiger Woods was the world’s best golfer AND he became a bazillionsire because he was also a BLACK golfer. Serena Williams is one of the best athletes of all time of any sex in any sport, but corporate sponsors flocked to her bc they saw a Black woman expanding the audience of a white sport. Same with Simone biles. Everyone openly acknowledges it.
But when it comes to Caitlin Clark, there’s a reason people are reluctant to have this conversation. Despite what people say, America has NEVER been afraid to have a conversation about race.

Caitlin Clark owns a signed pair of Nike Air Swoopes and has said she would buy an A'ja Wilson shoe. Hopefully that pisses off the racists as much as it pisses of those that resent her for getting attention right now.

The owners don’t decide which players receive endorsement deals.

Lucky for us that Black people are a monolith who all hold all the same opinions on all things.

Seems fair to me. What am I missing?
They want to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs. Owners have lost money on the league for decades. Now they finally have a chance to turn a profit, and ALL of the players will benefit from the increased sets of eyes watching the games.
