N Young CAN beat J I at 10000m. It depends. Ten-thousand meters at Olympics has changes. Under the old format, heat then final, N Young would defeat J I. In a paced race splitting 5000m sub-13:30 first 1/2, N Young would defeat J I. If first 5000m split slower than 13:45, I believe N Young would be vulnerable. Just because J I has a couple 5000m W.C. gold medals after 4000m split slowly doesn't mean he is a fast 10000m guy.

Lol
Jakob smashed Gressier (12:56 27:07 guy an XC specialist) in euro XC champs like it was a jog.
Young has no chance whatever the scenario of the race is. Jakob is a sub 26:30 guy. Even Fisher who is a 26:30 guy has no chance vs Jakob.

J Ingebrigtsen is not a sub-26:30 10000m. Don't make up stuff. This website is full of 5K/10K guys who race 10K, 2.08 x 5K. J I is an elite 1500m guy even though a TT 1500m guy. Elite 1500m guys do not race 10K at 2.08 x 5K. J I has earned two international gold medals, 5000m, jog and sprint 5000m. The guys have to choose to make J I pay with a fast first 4000m in 5000m races. Those 5000m gold medals do not translate to 10000m greatness.
Really? I think its 50/50 on whether Graham Blanks ever in his life runs 26:52.
Yeah Nico ran the #3 all time American 10000m time ahead of well established pros who can barely get below 27:20 despite multiple sub 27 attempts. He beat out some absolute distance legends who have had ample opportunity with modern training and shoes. And he did it all while still having to (somewhat) balance school and training while most of those guys are full time pro runners.
Blanks may well beat him in a race in the future, but I'm confident Blanks will never run a better 10000m and maybe even 5000m time. Sub 27 and Sub 13 are just mindboggling times for Americans to get.

Jakob might not be sub 26:30 (yet…), but he is also undefeated in every 5000 race he has entered since 2021 Florence, not counting prelims. A 12:48 at age 20 is hardly a jog, sprint finish. His 2 mile performance points to a very likely new 5k pb. Everyone says that the Eastern Africans have been making the fatal flaw of not going out fast in these 5k championships and to run the juice out of Jakob’s legs, but he has proved he can stick with a hot pace.
If it was any other 1500/5k runner, it wouldn't be so crazy. Nico could likely beat Kerr at 10k, definitely Nuguse and Wightman, probably even a doped-up Katir. But Jakob trains more like a 10k runner than a 1500 guy. Everything he has done so far indicates he is better the longer you go. His 1500 is better than his 800, his mile better than 1500, his 2k better than mile, 2-mile better than 2k. He hasn't bothered to TT past the 2-mile, but he regularly destroys 12:35-12:45 5k runners in championship races - despite facing better fields than he does at 1500, he is far more dominant. No reason to believe he isn't better at 5k than 1500-3k. So do we really think he would fall off a cliff at 10k (despite doing almost all of his workouts within a few seconds of 10k effort)?
Looking at the shape of body of Nico Young he could greatly challenge or even beat Jakob at larger distances (more chances for Half Marathon+ distances) if he train as hardly as him and is well organized.

Blanks will beat his 5k next year at BU.
~7 seconds is pretty rough to make up especially if there is only like 1-2 chances to get that time a year but I guess it's possible.
Do we know what the WC standard for 5K will be next year? If it's above 13, I doubt he gets into a race with good enough pacing to go below 12:57.
Maybe in a hilly XC 10k. But then again, Nico lost to Graham Blanks in a hilly XC 10k, and there’s no way Graham Blanks is beating Jakob.
I’m pretty sure Blanks would have beaten Young by over 20 seconds regardless of how flat or hilly a course it was. My experience in HS and college was that, hilly or not, it was always the same guys out in front.

Nico was in the race this year a couple of miles from Grahams dorm room at BU. If Graham wants to run the BU 5k with the pros next year, I’m sure he can get in. You need to remember, there was only one real pro in the BU 5k that Graham was in. That was Adkin from the UK. He also ran in the next one with Nico and went 12:57. Also Graham ran the last two laps by himself when he went 13:03. It’s unfortunate that he didn’t get to run the indoor season this year and could have been an epic battle between the two. We will see soon enough as Graham is one of the six Americans with the Olympic standard.

Had Jakob run the Ten, he would have just sat in the pack like Fisher and then destroyed the field over the last 150. The question isn’t could Nico beat Jakob, but could Grant beat Jakob at 10K? I say no

Yeah Fisher is a much more interesting discussion (26:33, 7th all-time). That's about 20 seconds faster than Nico Young.
And anybody that thinks Grant Fisher is beating Jakob by 20 seconds over a 10,000m is just mentally challenged.

Josh Kerr would do well to finish within 30 seconds of Nico Young in a 10k. Jakob is the only 1500m runner who would beat him. None of the others are even close.
It's a fair prop. Nico has proven to be a sub 27 10k runner. Jakob has not YET, but watching his 5ks and understanding his 10k training, it would not be a shock if he could run a 27 10k with the similar sit and close strategy he uses in the 5.
In a match race, I would bet on Jakob, but it would come down to the final 800. Nico closes better now, so very interesting indeed.
Some of you are crazy.
There’s nothing interesting about this race. If we’re talking about their kick, Nico easily got outkicked by Grant Fisher, and Jakob has the best kick in the world from 5000m up, it’s not even close.
And even in a fast race Nico is never beating Jakob, with the new shoes and pacing lights etc. Jakob could probably run 25 seconds faster than him, and I’m being conservative.
If I have to bet, in a world 10 000m final, I’m confidently taking Jakob, he’s just like Mo Farah but faster.

Your logic is a little flawed here, because Gressier was not a 12.56/27.07 guy when “Jakob smashed” him in Euro xc (in 2022 f.ex Gressiers pb in 10k roads was 27.41 and not 27.07)…

Kerr has run 8:00 for 2 miles looking like he had more to give. Destroyed a 7:25/12:46/26:33 guy in that race, just destroyed him. Then destroyed a 7:25/12:43/26:44 Olympic gold medalist at the world championship. Certainly he is in 7:23 shape or better over 3k. Roughly equivalent to 26:20 for 10k. He's also run 61:51 for the half. Roughly equivalent to 28:00. So it seems fair to say his actual 10k would be somewhere in the middle; 26:50-27:30, depending on how well he handles it. As I said in my post; Nico would probably beat him. But given his aerobic fitness Kerr showed this winter, I don't think it's THAT far-fetched that Kerr gives him a run for his money.
