A young man who is running 45.7 Ran 45.9 last year as a freshman as we all know.
Should he run at a uni or go pro right out of HS?
He seems to be on a good path, but I hope that he doesn't burn out/peak too early in his career.
The amount of times I've seen amazing HS prodigies - underclassmen ones at that - disappear once they get into college and become mediocre is scary.
45 is a man time for any high schooler. To be running that at 15-16 years old is absurd. I hope that is not as far as he'll go. We all know what happened to Tyrese Cooper 😞
I'm not worried about him becoming another Tyrese Cooper. He is a straight-A student who has a great support system around him and everyone who knows him has nothing but good words to say about him. He is close with experienced athletes like Grant Holloway, who is his mentor.
I think that while everyone acknowledges how incredible it is for a 15 year old to be running these times everyone forgets that he is still 15. Let him have his fun in HS while it lasts.
If he continues to improve at the rate he is now he should just go pro out of high school - and I don't say that very often anymore. These days it almost always makes more sense to just go to college and spend a year in the NCAA, unless you are literally a Knighton-level talent.
In any case, let's just see how he pans out. I have a feeling he's gonna run something pretty special this year (44.68...)
For sure, I think he'll progress very well because I have noticed his academic success and supporting field. That goes a long way when you have such an exceptional athlete. I believe he is 16 since January but regardless, I'm excited for his outdoor campaign. 45 low perhaps? 44 would also be amazing
I say have him running the 800 right away so he can break 1:40.0.
Okay I don't doubt he could run a crazy good 800M but under 1:40 is a stretch lol.
I can see him being a lot like Will Sumner when he's older though, as Sumner was a 45.7 guy in HS, ran the 800 for fun his senior year and managed 1:46.
Based on Quincy's 1:17, I have no doubt he could be an exceptional half-miler.

He goes to Bullis. He won't become a Tyrese Cooper
