I’m curious to know - what do people find works for peaking?
- cut mileage? By how much and over what period of time?
- cut workout volume?
- cut workout intensity?
- increase workout intensity?

I think people tend to cut too much mileage. If I was doing 50 miles for months before the peak race, I’d wouldn’t want to drop to anything less than 40 miles in the week or two leading up to the race.
I think cutting too much mileage gets a person out of shape.
it depends what distance you're peaking for. e.g. marathons completely different to 5k. and i have no experience racing events like 400m, 800m, 1500 but I imagine that's also different
Bumping this to get more input (thanks to those who responded already). For 5/10k, I typically cut mileage by ~20% over a 4 week span from peak at 90 down to ~70. I cut my long run from -20 down to 14-15. Workouts stay roughly the same with a a bigger track effort and a tempo. I will back off the week of the goal race. I typically will race 2-3 times in that 4-5 week span. A few times I’ve ended up really flat. Oddly, I sometimes feel peaked 2-3 weeks after a complete down week (20miles) and then started back up with a few reasonable mileage weeks (ie starting the next seasons training plan).
#1 Pick goal race(s).
#2 8-10 weeks of interval training/increasing mileage
#3 last hard week of training 3 weeks before peak race(highest mileage/interval workout).
#4 reduce mileage each week/shorter interval sessions as you approach peak race
#5 Peak When it Counts (also title of training book)... Feel fresh on the starting line.
