Yeah, not you—the one who started this thread. Jetson's Dog.
Sad little puppy he is.
Elroy needs to stop beating him.
(Figured you were more like the robot Astro . . . )
The 10,00 is NOT even close to an NCAA record. I doubt it even ranks in the top-150 all-time.
Cross country doesn't have "records" because the courses are inconsistent. Besides, Valby ran 18:55 at NCAAs this year and 17:59 at Regionals. The 5000 has been obliterated by Valby. The 1500 and mile times are only records because Wiley went pro. She absolutely crushed those times at least three times in her freshman year. And if Valby hadn't run the 5000 the night before, the 3000 would have gone down on Saturday night.
A "generational talent" does not set records that last for one year. How long is a generation? What is she, a fruit fly?
answer is very simple wrote:

Okay, puppy—those were pulled from the NCAA's article on Tuohy's going pro. Still, you're making a lot of excuses.
Also, you seem to have this belief that there is no room for Tuohy.
You are a sad little puppy. Tell Elroy to stop beating you.
It's not like both Tuohy and Valby—who, by the way, isn't going to date you bro—can't be great.
This isn't Highlander—there can be more than one.
Look, go back to looking at your little blue ribbons from your elementary school track meets you're so proud of and the medal for the sub-20 victory you had at the local road 5k 10 years ago and move along with your self-hate.
Tuohy's NCAA run, just like her HS run, was pretty damn great. Objectively. Valby is unlikely to leave with the same number of championships or records. She might, but she's running out of time.
BUT, you know what, that doesn't even matter. They don't hate each other—they respect each other.
But, you know, I suppose the hate filling up a beat little puppy maybe is enough hate for the rest of the running world.
You're not just wrong, you're also just sad.
Instead of a blind test, do a.wide open eye test. Show somebody a picture of Tuohy and say she is a great Russian distance runner. See what people say.
Like I always say, if you can point to something anomalous in her career which has been under the microscope since she was 15, do so. She has struggled to recover from injury, does not instantly attain peak fitness, gets tired, gets fatigued, has down races, conserves her efforts, is exhausted after hard efforts. Seems very natural.
You laid it out. She runs a fast 3000 then is a different person at outdoor. She is down and out XC nationals. Seems to go in cycles. She seems to be down when testing is a possibility. She has shoulders like no other distance runners since the East Germans. Now she has disappeared right after going pro and entering the testing pool.

You've been at it in this thread nearly 24/7 for the past few days, sparky. Is it fun for you? Seems like it would be quite a life...wheeeeeeeeeeee!! 🤪
Tuohy raced a lot in college and all three seasons. She sacrificed her fitness for the team (including putting off graduation to help the team win another XC title) and the exhaustion built up over the years. Henes was criticized every year for asking or letting Tuohy to over race. The tfrrs website shows that in 2023 Tuohy raced 20 times in 9 events while Valby raced 11 times in in 5 events. In 2022 Tuohy raced 17 times in 7 events while Valby raced 9 times in 4 events. In 2021 Tuohy raced 22 times in 7 events. Tuohy is exhausted.
Tuohy is the next Jordan Hasay.

How do you have such day-to-day running information for her?

Sophie O'Sullivan raced 42 times in calendar year 2023, including 14 races in Europe. Addy Wiley raced 39 times in 2023, including 3 in Europe. Both qualified for and competed in World Championship events.
There's no absolute measure of exhaustion. Tuohy was clearly exhausted the last two years of college running and her times and results suffered. She raced more than she had to in order to help the team. I blame Henes who raced her as much as she could. Tuohy raced twice as much as Valby did and any discussion of their "rivalry" has to factor that in. I expect faster times for Tuohy as a pro now that she can run for herself.
Yes. They have accomplished more than Tuohy at the highest level. Tuohy is never making a team.
Keep on expecting it. Don't hold your breath much longer.

Another one that’s here tilting at windmills, 24/7…wheeeeeeeeee 🤡
One thing is for sure. I’m a massive Tuohy fan, and have been for years.
HOWEVER, I have been incredibly impressed with Valby over the past 9 months. Particularly recently. Her performances are absolutely record breaking and excellent examples of superiority over her competitors.
Then, there is Tuohy. She’s a 4-time NCAA record holder. Still is. She’s had a rough patch. She’s turned pro in a very lucrative deal. We have yet to see her in a pro debut. I for one look forward to that day. She’s not going to hop in something to shake the rust off. When we see her race, we will see an amazing display of what she’s been working on. Over the years and all the times people have written her off, she continually comes back. Every single time.
I can hardly wait to see what she does THIS time. So excited!

Shhhhh 🤫
You’re not supposed to like more than one runner. The Tuohy haters here are going to get triggered if you don’t take the bait.
I’m like you. It’s great that we have so much young talent - on both the women’s and the men’s side. Let’s just hope they develop. I’m really psyched to see what Valby, Tuohy, Markezich, Henes, and others can do in the coming years.
She got a lot more than she would have gotten were she not to have participated in this sport. She is a pretty smart girl who will probably end up going to medical school. I happen to know a tennis prodigy who went through Harvard Med after tennis no longer worked out for her. That is life for all of us. We do something until we can no longer do it well or no longer have fun doing it. Then we move on.
She's become a grinder.
Super strong, but never gets up tall. Shuts her stride length down and makes it an ordeal.
Lots of courage and fire. Still has plenty of time to work it out
