If Kipchoge was removed in place of some random third guy, imagine the pressure on that replacement. It would go about as well as Steve Crabb's choke in Seoul when he got the nod over two-time defending Olympic 1500 champion Seb Coe.
Maybe the Olympics should have a spot open to the defending champ if he hit the qualifying mark.
I agree with completely with what you said- people know his name. I'm shocked that even some non-running high school kids (I teach) know of him some by his first name and even some as "that guy who ran 2 hours".
Imagine the hype for NBC for the build up for the first person to win 3?
