Backed off on intensity this week, and I feel like it was a good decision. Somehow I also ran my highest mileage week of the year (not by much and not incredibly high at 63km) while taking two days completely off. 🤷🏻♂️ The only work I did was on Sunday:
12 miles on the road with 10 x 400m Threshold/1200 Zone 2: It was (a very sudden) 83 degrees 🥵 when I headed out, and I was prepared to adjust the plan because I was definitely not ready to work hard at that temperature after several months in the 50s and 60s. By the 8th rep, my HR during the 400 was as high as I want it to be while doing T work and not dropping much during the zone 2 “recovery.” I nevertheless tried the 9th and sure enough, the HR blossomed like a roman candle on the 4th of July. Definitely not going to do the 10th… until the time rolled around and it was kinda downhill and oh what the heck… Yeah, but it sucked.
Summer is a challenge here, and it’s only March, but I know my paces and efforts at “normal” temps and I will adapt accordingly. Next time.
