The director, Wilbourn, puts all of the money towards sprints, jumps, multis and throws. Distance gets VERY LITTLE scholarship money.
It's tough to recruit distance runners for pennies, because they'll be able to go to Ivy League schools for cheaper due to the financial aid packages offered. Or they'll go to UNC, NC State, UVA, Notre Dame, for much bigger scholarships.
The head coach is terrible yes, but Rackart is god awful of a distance coach. It’s a shame Duke will never be competitive until they clean house with a new coaching staff

Don't blame Reckart, blame Wilbourn.

I blame Wilbourn and Rackart. Hiring Rechart was Wilbourn's decision and thats why I blame him too.

Duke did well on women's distance recruiting this year. We'll see how it works out.
They signed one of the top distance kids in his class last year so you are way off on your statement.
They've been signing top kids for decades both men and women, it just seldom seems to translate to NCAA success. Maatoug has been an exception recently on women's side.
Dukes roster has tons of talent. Need to be coached better. Angela better as an assistant to another better coach. Bring back Kevin Jermyn, Gary's, Dunbar (probably wants out from Vin), Baylee (Louisville)?

Duke now offers no loan financial aid packages, so for a kid qualifying for financial aid, it will be same package as Ivies or Stanford.
The Duke, Stanford, Notre Dame advantage over Ivies is being able to offer an athletic scholarship to someone who does not qualify for financial aid.
More than 1/3 of students at thise schools pay the full $90K per year. Distance runners are usually upper middle class. The ivies done make sense for the majority of elite distance runners.

I agree with you that most runners do not qualify for much financial aid. I was responding to post that Ivies offer more financial aid than Duke.
One would think if you had a choice between Duke free on athletic scholarship, or Ivy at $90,000 per year Duke would be the choice. Surprisingly, many families have set aside a trust for kid's education and are more than happy to just pay full price at the Ivy school anyway. Running gets them admitted and family pays the bill.
My son ran for Cornell amd we paid full price. It seemed like the smart investment but he has no better job than his high school friends who attended our state school and paid 25% as much.
