This thread was started before the race and was entitled, "We may be calling Grant Fisher a World Record Holder by this time next weekend." The race is over. He just missed the AR by running 12:51.84 (AR is 12:51.64) but what made it super impressive is he basically solo'd the whole race as he only had a rabbit for 2k.
He's now the 5th fastest man in history. Here is the top 4
1 12:49.60 Kenenisa Bekele ETH 13.06.82 1 Birmingham 20.02.2004
2 12:50.38 Haile Gebrselassie ETH 18.04.73 1 Birmingham 14.02.1999
3 12:51.48 Daniel Komen KEN 17.05.76 1 Stockholm 19.02.1998
4 12:51.61 William Kincaid USA 21.09.92 1r1 Boston 27.01.2023
I believe G Fisher does not want to be a David Moorcroft type of runner. Excellent racing, indoors may be how G Fisher funds his investment accounts and how he pays his mortgage(s), it clearly does not lead to outdoor international medals. I hope Grant Fisher does not break an indoor world record. Breaking indoor world records with no international medals is not classy.
Maybe he was trying to show the OP how annoying it is when you repeat yourself for no good reason.
PS You are right: The OP's ellipses are "actual" ellipses. They are silly, misplaced, unhelpful, annoying and so on, but, as you said, they are still ellipses.
Lol, and you just used 'random' twice in just 4 words! And what are 'actual' ellipses?

. . Mary (Slaney) Tabb's 5k & 10k outdoor records from 1982? . .
Mary Decker-Slaney - Tabb
As a young guy I always thought it would be funny if she married Carl Lewis for the South African slang "Lekker Doos"
Mary Decker-Lewis, spoonerism to the above.
Lekker – (lit. tasty) It means pleasing, tasty, nice, good, great, delicious. Lekker is used for just about anything you find nice.
doos – literally "box". Depending on context, the slang/derogatory version can mean prat, twat, idiot but most commonly understood as a translation of "arsehole" or "c*nt", which in that case would be considered highly offensive. (pronounced like Lewis)
In today's Millrose post-race interview, Grant confirmed he will be racing a 5k this upcoming weekend.
In his LRC interview last month, he mentioned he would be racing a 5k in Boston a few days following his Millrose 2 mile, just to simulate racing a 10k/5k double at the Oly Trials and (presumably) the Olympics.
Still to be confirmed where this 5k race is being held and who will be in it . . . but guessing it's the BU Terrier DMR Challenge meet on Friday (2/18) with the BTC guys . . . although a 5k is not on the schedule.
After today's 8:03 2-mile AR . . . sure seems feasible to assume Grant is in better shape than he was in 2022 when he ran his then-AR 12:53.73.
Woody's AR from last year at BU is 12:51.61 . . . while Bekele's WR form 2004 is 12:49.60.
Grant silently was going after Farah's (now former) 8:03.40 WR today . . . he stated after the race his plan was to run 60-second 400s the whole way . . . which is why he took the lead after the pacer dropped off rather than let Kerr do the heavy lifting.
So . . . have a pretty shrewd hunch Grant's not just looking to hang back with whomever is in the race then try to kick them down at the end.
Thus . . . 5 days from now . . . the US might have its first track world record holder in a distance race since . . . when? . . . Mary (Slaney) Tabb's 5k & 10k outdoor records from 1982? . . . from looking at WA's record lists, no US man has ever held a WR in the 5k or 10k . .. indoors or out . . . ever.
Hope he has some help with pacing in the 5k. He already has standard what’s the point of helping others get the Standard.
Todays 2 mile first pacer was simply bad. The second pacer ratcheted it back down then couldn’t last. Grant had to take the lead and continue to ratchet the pace down otherwise there would have been no WR from Kerr. Kerr owes Grant a big load of thanks which he acknowledged in his interview.
One possibility: Grant is the de-facto pacer . . . rabbiting everyone thru 7:51/3k (13:05/5k pace = Oly Q) then taking off to achieve whatever time he has targeted . . . he may be willing to do this if the other runners are his former BTC mates (Sean, Mo, Thomas, Kieran, Even).
However . . . now that his Millrose 2 mile has provided the racing evidence he was looking for that his new training program is working and working very well . . . sure seems likely Grant would want to see what this level of fitness yields for 5k . . . and trust it is good enough for him to target/regain his indoor AR.
All that being said . . . it is now Tuesday morning . . . and nothing has been written/spoken about this "mystery" race . . .
Grant said last month it will be in Boston but didn't specify the venue or meet name or whom he will be competing against . . . guessing it will be this Friday's BU DMR meet is just that . . . speculation.
And no one . . . including all the media outlets including social media and podcasts . . . haven't whispered a word about it.
Didn't LRC or Citius Mag or NY Times . . . or some random fan who bumped into Grant in the men's room . . . even bother to ask about this race then give the t&f world a heads up?
Expect entries for the BU DMR meet to be published online later today . . . so "clues" may be forthcoming in the next several hours.
In any case . . . have to say it . . . given the deafening silence . . . this all sounds/smells/looks like a BTC/Jerry Schumacher production . . .
Why jeopardize his performance for BTC guys? Sure they are past teammates and current friends but really… pace them for their getting the standard and having to run five flat for the last 2k on his own - that wouldn’t be smart.
Grant needs pacing at 7:45 for 3k at which time he and possibly Mo will have to run the last 2k on their own. Remember Mo pulled out of running the Houston half marathon so he probably had a niggle then.
Heard Sean isn’t running and the other guys will be hard pressed to run 13:05.

Sean not pictured in the IG photos, so looks like what you heard is likely correct.
They offered compliments while stating suggestions for improvement.
Meaning, they cared enough to say so, which I appreciate.
Meanwhile, back to track.
This Friday, US distance fans will be offered up a double treat:
At 7:30 pm EST, we get to witness a professional-only elite 5k race which could result in multiple national indoor records (US, Canada, Great Britain, Thailand) -- and possibly a new WR.
In other words, the ultimate in time trial racing.
Then, at 7:50pm & 8:05pm EST, we get to witness two professional-only national championship races with WC spots on the line.
In other words, the ultimate in championship racing.
For all the talk about what Jakob thinks about Kerr's race today . . .
Think about what Cheptegei, Kiplimo, Kejelcha, Aregawi, et al's reaction must be to Grant's 8:03 2-mile . . .
They know they have an equal on the other side of the world . . .
I don't think they know much after today that they did not already know. IAAF tables (2017 edition) equate his 8:03high to about a 7:28 3000m (he's run 7:25 outdoors, late last year), 12:50 5000m (he's run 12:46 outdoors / 12:53 indoors), or 26:47 10000m (he's run 26:33). So he's perhaps in better shape now than he was indoors in his best year, by a couple seconds, but it's nothing super unprecedented for him.
This was his first race. I believe that counts for something. If you're using an equivalency calculator, also look to see what it converts to for a mile, knowing that his best 1500 is a (?) 3:35? I bet the 8:03 is better than that, skewing his conversion of longer distances to faster times.

Grant is very fit, and doesn't just enter races for the hell of it. Elite runners don't do that. When racing at such a high level every race needs to serve a purpose, and the upcoming 5k will be FAST. The 8:03 has perfectly set him up for a WR attempt at the 5k and ultimately a quality 10k in So. Cal next month. Grant will run as fast as he can pending his current fitness.

Yes . . . Grant does have the 5k standard . . . but not the 10k standard . . . in fact, he does not even have a 10k world ranking due to the fact he didn't race a 10k last year.
So . . . no . . . he is not shutting it down after today . . . quite the reverse . . . this upcoming 5k race is one more fitness test . . . to prepare him for Sound Running's The TEN on March 16th . . . where he confirmed in his post-race interview today he just wants/needs to get the 27:00 Oly Q . . . so not a AR attempt there . . . at least at this point.
However . . . have a pretty shrewd hunch no one will be disappointed with Grant's performance next weekend . . .
Yeah, sorry just meant shutting down after that BU meet until outdoors, wasn’t aware the Ten was in March, you are correct.
Man, it is so rare these days for someone to just say, "You have a point there." Kudos to Yeah nah for being a civil human being!
