After I asked the question, I was humbled a bit after learning a bit more about injuries she has dealt with (the screws and plate).
Yes she did have screws and a plate in her foot. She’s come back from quite a few injuries! Used to do the Steeplechase but then switched to 5ks plus.
In terms of race times, I kind of see a potential parallel with Parker Valby’s future in the sport. Hopefully Valby can escape severe injury; I don’t know if she has a plate, but I vaguely recall something about a screw when she broke her foot.
I didn’t know about the steeplechase; Valby was/is considering the steeple, too.
I recently saw (Instagram) McColgan on an Arc Trainer, Valby’s preferred cross-trainer.
If she can get back to last year’s fitness, her chances in the 10k are probably better than any American not named Monson.
While due to injury this is likely true - she did outkick Monson rather easily at the 10 last year, so is due to the injury rather than Monson necessarily being better.
It was almost a year ago that she set a new uk record in The Ten at 30 minutes even. Seems she was quite unlucky with injury after that. Does anyone know her racing plans? Health status? Fitness?
The "Is" is outdated at this point. The bad English is no longer interesting and has become annoying. It especially makes no sense to new and/or infrequent visitors to the site and even frequent visitors who don't know the genesis of the "Is". - I am politely asking you to stop.
Koko was at the German 10k road Champs last weekend (hosted by her club and not far from her hometown) but didn't race despite being on the start list.
She left the Cragg's Puma group and is now being coached by Gary Lough (Paula's husband). She dnf'd the half in Dubai a few weeks ago after a training camp in Ethiopia. I'm more worried about her than Eilish tbh.

Does sound worrying. Not looking good for her and the Olympics I guess then. I saw she was at a training camp and thought she was back to full health.
There is a new, fast Scot in town and her name is Natasha Phillips. Went from swimmer to 1:11 HM in a couple of years. You heard it here first.
Let's stick with the Megan Keith hype train for now. Already competed at the World Champs last year, Euro XC u23 champion, has the 10k qualifying standard for Paris via the XC rankings, 14:56 for 5k, 31:22 for 10k (road time). She's a little younger than Katelyn Tuohy. And she's down to run The Ten this month.
But I'm not counting out McColgan from making the Olympics.

Not much in here except her saying she expects to be in Paris.
No mention of how training is going. it wouldn't exactly fill you with confidence
Expects to be in Paris because she already has a qualifying time from last year and she's the only GBR athlete with the standard. A few others are in the mix to qualify by ranking, however. Does GBR have a trials race? Does she have to beat those other three at some point this year for her to be selected to their olympic team?

Once you have the standard you then have to be selected. So hitting the standard doesn’t guarantee selection. There’s other criteria (such as demonstrating current fitness at that distance).
Not sure when the selection occurs though. I know we’ve selected a few marathon runners and that’s about it!
