Just pointing out the success of BU this year. They are much improved from a few years ago…even though this forum never seems to think so. Also Holy cross had some good middle distance results too.

Spangler inherited a really weak team and built them up consistently, despite BU shutting down entirely due to COVID and Gabe coming in to undermine him in year 3. Most of the guys scoring big points for BU now were Spangler's recruits.

BU has an UNLIMITED RECRUITING POOL. Army and Navy can only recruit Americans who want to serve in the military. BU can recruit anyone in the world, including Americans who want to serve in the military.

When your 3:56 miler can't break 4:10 to make the final of the 1500, and then splits 1:55 in a 4x8, don't expect many people to praise the coach like he's a genius.

2017 - 63 indoors (47 without the 1K) / 49 outdoors

Under Spangler:

2018 - 19 indoors (17 without the 1K) / 32 outdoors

2019 - 32 indoors (27 without the 1K) / 27 outdoors

2020 - 26 indoors

2021 - 16 outdoors (I think he left during this season)

Under Sanders:

2022 - 20 indoors / 19 outdoors

2023 - 38 indoors / 38 outdoors

2024 - 69 indoors

I don't think anyone here is going to argue that Spangler did a great job at BU either. You also have to admit that Carpenter's XC results have been bad - 3rd in 2022 and 2023 when clearly his team has the talent to do much better.

Gabe's sprinters have not performed, but you have to give Gabe credit for increasing the scholarships that were allocated to distance. That is the biggest reason behind the point increase you list.

Furthermore, Malleck is a 5th year senior that is only eligible in the Patriot League due to COVID because the Patriot League does not allow redshirting. Malleck scored 20 points between the mile, 3k, 4x8 and DMR. If you take him out, then Navy gains at least 6 points so it's a 26 point swing, and Navy would have gained at least 6 points back. Keeny's DQ was another 8 points. So Navy very easily could have had the highest distance point total by nearly 30 points if it weren't for COVID eligibility and an unfortunate DQ.

Lets also remember that BU got 3rd at PLC XC this year behind Army and significantly behind Navy (look how bad they did indoor lmao). It seems BU trained through XC to focus much more on running fast around their cheater track and still barely beat Navy in terms of points on the distance side. If Kenny doesn't get DQ'd, BU earns 63 points while Navy earns 71 with 8 less skinnies. Still Keeny gotta add some mass or start throwing some 'bows of his own if he wants to compete in the big bad Patriot League
