Full disclosure. I only know 5 high school US trans girls in the US (Miller, Yearwood, Ryan, Barrett, Stark). So my list here is surely wrong. So please feel free to improve on this list.
When I was watching the Chicago marathon, I was surprised to see the amount of coverage for the wheelchair category. I believe that only 0.5% of the under 65 US population is in a wheelchair. On the other hand, 1.4% of US High School kids identify as trans. It is a much bigger group of people. Why do they not deserve their own record book?
Furthermore, track is an individual sport. It should be easier to welcome the trans kids. So why don’t we?
If a special event/category can be held for wheelchair athletes, why can’t we create a category for trans athletes?
Here is my preliminary list:
100m: Terry Miller 11.72
200m: Terry Miller 24.17
400m Terry Miller 56.59
800m Athena Ryan 2:19.6
1600m Athena Ryan 4:52.6
3200m Athena Ryan 10:40.4
