I have no idea what their schedule is, but if they were looking to qualify they had a qualifier at Great Oak High School last week, and only one top guy ran. It would be odd that they skip that to run here, but maybe their training block dictates that.
Also odd that just about all the top JSerra girls have run, but none of the boys have.
Also, only 18 boys and girls total have qualified in the 3000m, but 99 boys have qualified in the 150m. And over 100 boys and girls total have qualified in the 600m.
Somewhat understandable. The distance people had a long XC season, and have a long track season ahead. Some sprinters are probably really anxious to compete and see what they can run now.
Wow, 102 qualifiers already in the girls 60m, and 129 in the boys 60m. Bound to be a lot more.
They are going to need about 40 heats of the 60m. Probably 20-30 heats of 150m. It's going to be a long track meet. I wonder if there is a limit on qualifiers.
Last year they what seemed like a 100 heats of the 60 took for ever. Complete waste of time. Appears that the whole purpose of the WC and the incredibly high number of participants is so the promotors can make a killing on it. No reason to have that many entrants. Keep it to the top 25.
The Calabasas girls were pretty impressive today at the Spokane Invitational… 7.5 and 7.6 in the 60m finals plus 56.7 in 400. Great early season marks.
Morales from JSerra ran a very impressive 1:21 in the 600 at Los Alamitos.
As expected, a good sprinter turnout. But really weak on the distance side. By my count, of the top 50 XC runners ranked by speed rating, only 4 of those are competing, and about 10 of the top 100. Last year, Great Oak and San Clemente had most of their varsity run, but not this year.
But this is really for the sprinters. Just on the boys side, their was 270 qualifiers in the 60m. And another 175 boys in the 150m. That's a lot of heats.

As predicted, solid day for sprinters at the CA Winter Championships. Demare Dezeurn (Bishop Alemany) put down the fastest 60m ever by a freshman (indoor or outdoor) and broke Zhinnick’s meet record. Mikaela Warr broke two sprint records and took down the defending 100m champ with a 7.28 60m. Payton Smith broke the 300m meet record and the 600m was hot with Xai Ricks, Bodi Ligons and Alden Morales. Bring on T&F season!!!
