Unfortunately, Patriot is going to be missing 7 big middle distance names (really, the biggest ones in the valley) and Boise Relays will be missing Rocky while they are at Pasco. Rocky will be at Jesuit the week after Oregon Relays, so Bandanna loses a lot of high end comp as well. With Boise relays in between Arcadia and Oregon Relays, my guess is you won’t see the Boise guys or Ringert in the 3200 there.
With that in mind, CDA can have as good of comp or better in an intrasquad race up north. They are super deep and they benefit from it the same way Rocky does.
I’m going to correct myself. Stockett deserves to be included in the big names in the valley but he won’t be at Patriot as VC is at the Nampa City Meet that day.

I think it's pretty cool that we are at the point that 9:20 doesn't get you into the conversation as someone who could win the state title. Wil Ihmels is almost an afterthought at 3200 with a 9:14 right now.
There is team that has guys returning with boys that went 9:54, 9:54, 10:13, and 16:35 at Firman as a freshman, a freshman, a sophomore, and a sophomore and they might not be a podium team in cross because CDA, Rocky, Boise and Mountain View exist. The 6th place team from last state cross is losing their top 2 guys, and still could be returning 2 sub 10 sophomores and 3 more that run under 10:20 this season, two of which are freshmen, and they might not improve their placement, and very well could get worse if Centennial stays healthy, Highland doesn't drop off at all, and Timberline puts it together. It's not that long ago that a team that is that young and with those marks would be considered a top 4 team going into the season, and you could easily make the argument for 8th now.
Idaho is at a high point in running and it's not like it's going away any time soon, but the class of 2024 is pretty special and I think it deserves a lot of attention. I do think we end up seeing multiple sophomore boys in the high 9:30's to low 9:40's this year, which will ideally translate into the low to mid 9:20's as juniors. Gabe Heule and Mitchell Rietze get lost in the shuffle up north, but they will be super good as well.
Why not call attention to these kids that are crushing it?
Celebrating what kids are accomplishing is turning performance into an idol? That's an interesting choice of words to use.
I am confused why you are pointing out word choice on a running forum
Because the word “idol” isn’t commonly used unless it’s by religious people, and there’s a certain religious person that purportedly posts on here that also publicly decries the way that people hold up those that run fast.
I just wanted to remind you that this is high school running. The more we emphasize how fast kids run and how "cool" all of these fast Idaho kids are, the more we produce things like you see in CDA's youtube channel....fanboys that put others on pedestals and "idolize" other runners like themselves that can simply run fast. I get that this message board is for speculation and celebration, but it does influence kids in a negative way to think that fast times make someone "cool." Thus, why I said turning performance into an idol, because kids start to become obsessed with reaching a certain time or place in the sport thinking they will finally be "cool."
Given that you immediately jumped in on the huge time drops like it was something that you had to discount (for your own personal reasons), and the usage of the word “idol,” it’s easy to guess at who you are, especially with you are saying essentially the same thing that a somewhat public figure posts on their strava in various forms. Doubly so that you have to take swipes at CDA out of the blue.
I didn’t say the kids were cool for running fast. I said that it’s cool that Idaho has gotten so deep that it takes running much faster to be in the conversation to win than it did even a couple of years ago. You’re putting your own spin on what was said.
I initially was emphasizing the time drops because Idaho times (especially early season) do not jump off the page or accurately reflect most kids fitness. Timberlines efforts in Cali are a great example of that truth and a reason why Idaho is slept on. However, all of this needs to stay in proper perspective, it sounds like we are looking at the same thing from a different angle. Like I said, I agree that it’s great to see Idaho improve (it doesn’t impress me though because if kids run more they improve so it’s likely kids are simply running more). Kids that are choosing to not run as much aren’t improving as much, but then people on these boards start the comparison game and throwing people under the bus (which does nothing for anyone), when in fact these kids all have coaches who are hopefully coaching them to be successful human beings that can have an impact in the world and not just get as fast as they can thinking that earns them some status in the sport. Performance has to be a byproduct and not where the focus is if you are going to have sustained success.
Of course it’s who you think it is. I said it in my first comment on here. That person can’t help themselves. Notice they didn’t refute what you said at all because they can’t bring themselves to lie.
That doesn’t stop a mid 30’s guy from making comments about kids that dare to have a little fun with stuff, though. I hope CDA dominates Rocky for as long as the leadership there is in place, and purely out of who that person is proving themselves to be.
Just trying to get to the heart level, running fast shouldn’t be the end all be all.
It kind of depends on what this thread is about. Usually a Letsrun HS thread is about highlighting national level runners, major invite previews, or potential collegiate talent. Obviously HS sports is about much more than the genetically lucky stars and each athlete has their own important experience, but this thread strikes me as being about helping Idaho runners get collegiate and national attention. In other words, who in Idaho is or will be crazy fast?

But maybe I’m off.
Bingo.
By the way, saying "just trying to get to the heart level" in response to an outright accusation that you are, in fact, a high school coach that has a reason to be posting why Timberline's performances aren't impressive or to attack what another school is doing, is essentially a confirmation that you are that person. Is it getting on the heart level to take a crap on what kids are doing because you don't necessarily agree with it?
If you have an issue with people going and running fast at sea level, take your kids on a travel trip instead of getting on a message board and having issues with schools that do. I hope that every high school kid that gets on these threads realizes who Idaho to cali drop is and
"They got some nice time drops going from Idaho to Cali….Janecko 4:52 to 4:31….hope people understand how tough it is to run fast in Idaho especially at the early meets with limited competition."
My post on Timberline is quoted above. Nothing critical was said about them. Was using them to show how tough it is to run fast early in Idaho weather/minimal competition. Classic letsrun board stuff here, I think we are reading into posts further then they need to be read into. I'll take ownership on that exact thing when I took things to a deeper level talking about performance and times not being the end all be all. Since this is a thread to highlight what runners are accomplishing I can chill out.
