I've never had the impression that Galen is dumb, just that early in his career he was pretty shy of the spotlight. After being the premeir American distance runner for a decade and a half, it makes sense that he's started to get more comfortable when it comes to that.
I did too. He's had some good interviews post-Salazar where he's shown more of his personality. I don't think he's ever going to be the one to wax poetic about "thundering down the Brandenburg Gate" but what's great about him is that he easily puts himself in the place of the runners he's talking about without needing to be prompted much.
And he speaks of Tola and Yimir in the same ease as he would of any Western runner. There's no pause before names or saying he looks stronger "than the other one." [sorry, Barrios, you mean well] Rupp is really fluent with everyone's backstories.
I would REALLY enjoy Rupp as a distance commentator.
Although it can be a bit hard to know for sure because he keeps himself out of the public eye for the most part, from what I have seen he seems to really be a student of the sport and I’d be surprised if he doesn’t end up coaching or involved in track/distance at a high level even after retiring.
They did not interact because they were on the lead vehicles and not in the studio.
Rupp was excellent and will probably be in demand when his competitive days are behind him. However, I wonder if Kara has a deal with NBC that would effectively prevent Galen from getting an NBC gig.

This is a good take. Rupp may be the only guy out there for whom the top East Africans guys are not faceless and interchangeable.
Great insight and affable- maybe a new career after he retires
He often had a lot of good, long interviews with Flotrack and runnerspace back in the day. Unfortunately, most of those are behind a paywall now. It wasn’t until 2016-ish where he started to keep to himself more.
He’s not into shallow social media posts. Nike fortunately doesn’t make him obligated to post them and I’m fine with that.
