2.10 will not get you funded in UK. You need to show that you can medal at a global level, 2.10 is a long way off. Cairess will be lucky to get on the list.
Cut this person/feline a break. I tell you: if I had a cat that ran 2:14 in a marathon, it would be sponsored over GoFundMe or IG so quick I don't what I'd do with all of the cash.
I hate to say it but he's right... I always wonder about these sub-elite athletes. All the same sacrifices as the elites - but a 2:14 marathoner has nothing more to show for it than a 3:14 marathoner. 10 years later and you'll be talking with your co-workers and someone will say "oh, you ran a 2:14... that's pretty good..." But you could sub in a 3:14 or 4:14 or 5:14 and the comment would still be the same (as in feigning being impressed but they really don't give a sh!t about your 2:14, much less have a sense for whether that's actually good or not).
For the record, I'm a 2:57 marathon runner... and I keep having to remind myself not to take it too seriously. the 40 miles/week I ran to achieve a 2:57 is fine. If I doubled or tripled my mileage, it would severely interfere with my family life, career and any free time I have... and for what? To maybe break 2:50?? Not worth it.

Trust me, you’d feel differently if you ran 2:14.
I’ve run 2:35 and can’t even comprehend what it’s like to live in a 2:14 guy’s body. If he says the extra sleep would taken him to another level, respect it. He’s living in a completely different universe than us 2:30+ guys.
If you really want to go for it, save up and take a 4-6 month sabbatical. Maybe pick up some small part time job on the side to help float you.
If you were able get under 2:10, you could possibly make a go of it as a uk male. You would want to go hard on social media as that will be your real gold mine yo keep you going
Nothing has gotten me better sleep than the cryogenic sleep pod I just bought. I sleep about 16 hours a day. I plan on getting a massive training block than going into it for hibernation for a week taper before the big race. Good luck on getting 14 hours. The 12+ hours is a life saver!
I run 120 miles per week. I only get 8 hours of sleep due to job. My body really needs 14 hours of sleep per day (12 overnight; 2 hour nap between runs). If I got 14 hours per night, I think I would improve from 2:14 to 2:10 and get UK funding.
Any tips to get my body the extra 6 hours of rest without actually sleeping?
There’s a Chinese saying (Chinese clock) that every hour of sleep you get before 12am is worth two after, so the trick, in your case, is to go to sleep at 9pm. If you awaken at 6am, you are getting nine total hours but 12 according to the Chinese theory. A two hour nap is not possible for a non-professional runner. Try a 20-30 minute power nap. There’s your answer.
LetsRun should start a GoFund me for this guy. Would be a cool documentary to see him sleep 16-18 hours a day and train the other 6-8 hours with two runs, strength training, stretching, yogA. Like a science experiment on sleep “doping”. I’d donate $20.
