Not really a husky fan -- graduated across the mountains at WSU. I don't really know why either place couldn't be a great for track and field. I would much rather train where it is cooler than train in the heat in the humidity in the South. Is there some disadvantage for sprinters in the cooler climate?
Bob Timmons coached Archie San Romani Jr. to the national high school mile record at Wichita East. Following that he would later coach Jim Ryun to the HS mile record and the first sub 4. Then at Kansas Ryun had world records in the 880, mile, and 1500 under Timmons' watch. Not to bad for a college mile coach.
Too bad the UW couldn't have talked Kenneth Rooks, the 2023 NCAA steeplechase champion, into going there instead of BYU. He is from Washington, although on the opposite side of the state.
Fay is an Irish Grad Student, so yes he is a transfer
He’s been at Washington for multiple years now…
"Completed his Bachelors degree in Business, specializing in Finance, at Dublin City University ... pursuing a graduate degree at Washington in History." this comes straight from Fays roster on UWs website () . God you guys are idiots
The Official Athletics Site for the University of Washington. Watch game highlights of Washington Huskies games online, get tickets to Huskies athletic events, and shop for official Washington Huskies gear in the team store.
Lol if you were at WSU you should know full well why that part of the state will likely never have much of a sprinting prowess. Brutal winters. Much easier for us distance fellas to navigate a bad winter than it is for sprinters. As for the western part of the state, I can imagine rain isn't a much better condition to have to deal with year-round
i don't know what to think of this story, and especially Powell's role in it. So we have a guy that went from 4:32 in his junior year to 4:10 as a senior. powell let him try out as a walk on, multiple times. Finally let him join the real squad, when after 2 years of this kid busting his balls training on his own, he runs a 3:46.
sounds like the potential was always there. glaringly obvious. and powell still made him go to hell and back to make the squad.
that kid is the hero of his own story. Powell benefited from Prefontaine's lore bringing that kid into oregon.

This is true. Most of his successful athletes at Oregon went there because it's Oregon, not because of Powell. Centro went there because his father went there. Jenkins transfered in already having run sub 4. Rupp was getting coached by Salazar.
Most of his UW athletes were sub 4 before arriving at UW.

None of the three UW athletes in the 1500m final were sub 4 before arriving at UW. How can people post things that are blatantly untrue yet easy to check?
